Do any other FCS schools ban re-entry? That seems like a much better comparison than much larger venues, with more amenities and bathrooms and a greater financial interest in keeping people in the stadium and spending money.kmax wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 8:52 amAs others have said this isn't something that people are going to agree on here. NDSU does for sure. I cannot recall if SDSU did or not when we were there last year. I think UND also does not allow re-entry.GoodTimesAllTheTime wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 10:51 amDo any other FCS schools ban re-entry? Re: No Re-entry
Interesting, ISU used to and was one of the very few I was counting that did. I haven't been to their barn in over 10 years though so makes sense that it has changed. That leaves me even more fingers when I count them up. I've been to 8 of the current Big Sky schools and (now with ISU news) only MSU and UM allow re-entry that I am aware of anyway.technoCat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 10:58 amISU doesn't allow it.cat22[2010] wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 10:54 amNDSU does for sure. How many that do not allow re-entry allow alcohol consumed in the stands? ISU allows it up until the 4th quarter. I think that is pretty standard after being to a couple Oregon State games in Corvallis.kmax wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 11:05 amInteresting, ISU used to and was one of the very few I was counting that did. Re: No Re-entry
Eliminating re-entry would be the biggest mistake MSU could make, and it's not about third-quarter crowd size or alcohol consumption.
One thing you see at MSU and UM that's rare at other college football stadiums is families. Two weeks ago at ISU, I barely saw any families. Why? It's challenging to keep kids seated for 3.5 hours straight. At some point, it's not worth the effort to bring a family to watch only part of the game. Consequently, families simply don't attend.
This Saturday, notice how many young families are experiencing Bobcat football, becoming lifelong fans, and growing our fan base. Parents won't bother bringing them if they have to struggle for three hours or if they're limited to watching only the first half. Instead, they'll stay home. But because they have re-entry as an option, the kids can go run around and burn some energy before they go back into the game.
I'm proud to say my kids (17,13) have never missed a game, but this is only possible because we have re-entry when they were young.
I expect that MSU will attempt to justify closing the stadium to re-entry at some point, and I can only hope that our fan base fights back.
As a side note: I saw more drunk obnoxious fans at the ISU game(some were MSU fans) than I have at any of our games, and you can buy and bring beer into the stands at ISU. So people just sit and get hammered.

I think the solution is better educated fans who make it a point to get back on time rather than restricting their choices in order to control their behavior. People pay a ton of money to go to Cat games and they put a lot into their tailgates. They don't deserve to have their options taken away because of a Jason Eck interview.

Re: No Re-entry
I can remember Cat games where people were trying to be loud or do the wave when MSU was on offense. On Saturday, it was virtually silent when the Cats had the ball. The fan base has gotten smarter about how to behave and create the biggest advantage possible. I'm guessing that if there were announcements regarding getting back on time to create a homefield advantage in Q3, people would respond to it-- at least in competitive games.

Most of the scoring incidences happen either in blowouts, or after MSU had already scored in the 3Q. It does not matter, now let us drink and socialize in peace.

26 home games, 13 of those drives MSU had the ball, and the 13 opponent drives have resulted in 10 punts, 1 missed FG, and 2 scoring drives for 10 total points. 0.38 points per game. Vigen and Eck can do their jobs without me contacting them but game results don't suggest it matters.
While having half the stadium gone clearly makes it easier for an opponent to operate, it does not take away the fact that our team is flat out good. We should be successful all the time. But to try and defend that 11,000 fans is just as effective as 22,000 fans is stupid. And to not forego a 10 minute social break to provide the BEST environment for your team is mind boggling to me.

Re: No Re-entry
I didn’t attend the Quarterback Club meeting this Monday. I did just receive an email from QBC with a special message which is not normal. The email brought me to the QBC website with a 30 second video clip of Coach Vigen. It was a message that this is a big game and we need everyone to be back in your seats before the 3rd quarter starts. He asked to spread the word. His comment was that crowds right after halftime can feel like the ICCU dome with nobody in their seats.
When the head coach asks for something to help the team, fans are usually quick to react. I think this is small ask.

I don't believe I said they have a right to re-entry; it's just the current rule. My opinion is that it should remain the rule to maintain a great fan experience for people who shell out tons of money to support the team and enjoy the product. Worsening the fan experience in an effort to enhance an already considerable homefield advantage is the tail wagging the dog.Cataholic wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 11:42 amPeople pay a lot of money at other stadiums as well.
