He did A LOT to help Kane's career. I have a feeling Kane will be pretty high on his potential DC list.

Would dropping the Co- from his Co-DC title really be worth moving from Boise State to Nevada? With the previous DC being elevated to HC he might actually drop the Co- from his title without changing teams.CatsNoMatterWhat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 3:53 pmHe did A LOT to help Kane's career. I suppose it will depend on if Kane feels that Nevada can be built into the bigger MWC power. Obviously $$ will come into play too.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 4:24 pmWould dropping the Co- from his Co-DC title really be worth moving from Boise State to Nevada? Does he have more faith in Choate or the new HC at Boise?

Glad Choate is going to Nevada and not New Mexico - rather play the Lobos next August without Choate firing them up.

Ioane, Miller, Potter are all at Boise. Also, Bush Hamden (who was initially going to be our OC) is the OC/QB Coach at Boise.
Jimmy Beall at SDSU
Brian Armstrong at Fresno.
Pitre is with the Falcons, where the HC is on the hot seat.
I assume GA is happy back in the NFL and Gregorak is out of football coaching for good.
Probably a few others I'm not thinking of.

Re: Choate to Nevada
I noticed also the use of the word “fieldhouse” and she also said something like “to benefit all our sports.” I think it’ll be much more comprehensive than just a football IPF.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 3:40 pmI think he said an indoor fieldhouse...might or might not be a distinction from an IPF. Maybe it's a multi-use facility for soccer, track, football, etc. Doubt it's a place where any type of games would happen, but that's what I think of when I think fieldhouse.
Seems less than essential for a place like Reno, but the average high in Reno in August is 93 degrees. The average high in Bozeman in August is 82, and we definitely have days where we have to watch for heat. Plus it can also snow in Reno in November/December, so it's not a bad thing to have. But for years I'm sure they just put up with the one-off days.
I’m surprised that Reno only gets 19” of annual snow — must come in two bursts. We stayed overnight there (first time ever) on our way to California for a specialized software course. Beautiful bluebird mid-February day when we arrived. 8”+ of snow and snowing very heavily the next morning. Donner Pass (I-80) was closed until 1 p.m. Would have never driven it but had mounted Montana-quality studded winter tires in the trunk to put on, and I needed to be in Pleasanton the next morning to start class. It was warm in Reno and that snow probably was gone in a day or two. What an unbelievable mess up on the pass.

It’ll be interesting to see how many of MSU’s players will be on the Nevada roster. Gotta believe he’d be going after Valdez, Woodard, Mellott, Perkins, who I think were all part of his final recruiting class and started in ‘21. Seems like Perkins is staying and it’s hard to imagine Mellott would leave, especially if he is hurt worse than I think he is. Not a lot of guys that actually played for Choate though.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I could see Rush going to Nevada. Think he was a Choate recruit, and if he is going FBS, I would imagine it would be a Mountain West school.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 9:52 amIt’ll be interesting to see how many of MSU’s players will be on the Nevada roster. Outside of the lineman, I don’t see why any offensive player would follow. I’m really only worried about Valdez and Schmidt at this point.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 9:52 amIt’ll be interesting to see how many of MSU’s players will be on the Nevada roster. He thought Lonergan was the best recruit in Montana. Not sure if that translates thoughBelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 10:17 amOutside of the lineman, I don’t see why any offensive player would follow. I have a hard time believing Tommy would leave. And Perkins too. Hopefully he'll be the glue to hold the younger players together.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 9:52 amIt’ll be interesting to see how many of MSU’s players will be on the Nevada roster. A bottom tier MWC team wouldn't seem like a very appealing landing place for a transferring player from MSU. But who knows.Camo_Cat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 10:14 amI could see Rush going to Nevada. I understand the connection to msu players and the thoughts of him maybe poaching one or two. I would assume he would more interested players on the Texas roster that might be buried a little on the depth chart. It’s exactly what he did for the cats with his UW connections.

I know a lot of people really like Choate and I do, too, although I don't really know him at all. I don't mean this as a knock because I truly believe you need some breaks/luck along the way to having success....He's really led a charmed life as a coach. He got time to rebuild MSU and when I say charmed, I don't mean those first two years, but his last two were really something. The win at UM in 2018 was one play from being a blowout and there were several other plays that UM didn't make that kept MSU in it and then the fumble by UM. The next year MSU gets two easy games (Albany and Austin Peay) to the semifinals in 2019. Both years were close to not even making the playoffs. Then he goes to Texas, and they end up in the finals.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 3:36 pmThis sounds familiar.Jeff Choate speaking at Nevada wrote:

Re: Choate to Nevada
That's a pretty lopsided view of the 2018 game. What's the 1 play you're referring to that would've made it a blowout?TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 4:20 pmI know a lot of people really like Choate and I do, too, although I don't really know him at all. The griz also had their share of luck in that game. I remember an incredible 1 handed catch on their first TD drive that maybe gets caught 1 in 20 times. Also remember a couple 3rd and 17 type plays they converted on the same drive, one on 2 missed tackles and another throwing the ball up into triple coverage.
I would argue that game didn't need to be as close as it was at the end.

Re: Choate to Nevada
At his level, it is more about connections and networking. He is from the Peterson coaching tree. That goes a long way.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 4:20 pmI know a lot of people really like Choate and I do, too, although I don't really know him at all. While his win/loss record was clearly evident of a rebuild at MSU, his attitude and charisma were a breath of fresh air, IMO.
