He's got a tough pull there. But he needed to take a job if his ultimate goal is a P5 head job, and given the trend in the sport he doesn't have that many years to get that shot before he's aged out IMO. 53 now. This job and one more might be about it, time-wise. Hope he succeeds!

I just have this feeling that the MWC will get better with the Pac-12 almost leaving the region. Obviously those teams aren't relocating, but it gives me this feeling that there's going to be some regional pride in playing for (and against) western teams. Plus they're sprinkling in games with OSU and WSU who could possibly raise the profile just a bit. I could be dead wrong, but I think we'll see a few teams get better and the MWC won't be a bad conference.

Maybe. There's also a large maybe we would've seen more Troy at QB during 2021 because he just couldn't help himself. I think his version of the 2021 defense would've been really fun but I'm just not convinced we would've seen the growth necessary on offense to get over the hump.

Decent money in the booster base and they’ve been a winning program in the MWC prior to recent years. Knocked Boise out of a potential title game in the 2000s.

It’s a much better job than Wyoming in my view and Bohl is doing fine in Laramie.

Not without a QB. Choate could never shore up that position.

Would he have moved Hardy? Would he have thrown the ball to McCutcheon as much as they did that year? Would he have recruited another QB or made the change at QB from Matt to Tommy? Would he have kept Troy at LB?

I think Choate will do well. He's a dynamic recruiter and that's what you need in a place without great facilities.

The Reno/Tahoe area is not Bozeman but actually has a lot to offer.

Expectations are moderate, he knows the Mountain West region for recruiting and I think he can put a competitive team on the field.

Very Good for MSU coach recruitment for people to see that the head job here is a pathway to a FBS head coaching gig (though obviously better if he could have made the jump directly rather than having to spend 3 years in Texas first) Of our coaches over the last half century, as I recall, only Lubick and Sweeney have made that jump.

It was interesting to hear the AD say that they are trying to build an indoor. I was a bit surprised they didn't already have one.

Good for him. He will do well there.
I hope he doesn't steal Sean Herrin from MSU. Herrin is as responsible as anyone for the development of MSU's athletes. Losing him would be a big loss to MSU.

I agree though some believe his training has led to more lower body injuries

But it is not Bozeman weather. Still in the 60s there now. They average 19 inches of snow a year.
