Okay, then I'm still a bit surprised that they didn't already have an indoor.RockyBearCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:05 pmI presume winter conditioning and spring ball for the most part. I actually think this is pretty good G5 landing spot for him. UNR has been down for a few years but it’s a program that I’m guessing he could turn around in several years and use it as a spring board to a P4 job in the future. Good for him.

My guess would be extreme summer heat. But that’s just a guess.AFCAT wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:04 pmThen why are they trying to build an indoor?RockyBearCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 4:58 pmBut it is not Bozeman weather. Still in the 60s there now. They average 19 inches of snow a year.

I don't think Reno has that problem, it's in northern Nevada.CodyCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:04 pmMy guess would be extreme summer heat. Reno is extremely windy. Tough to practice when you’re getting blown over.91catAlum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:31 pmI don't think Reno has that problem, it's in northern Nevada.CodyCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:04 pmMy guess would be extreme summer heat. Choate has lots of good qualities. But he doesn't understand the first thing about offense, and he's a God awful evaluator of QB talent.
If he gets a good OC & QB coach, he will probably do well. If Udy turned out to fix all of Choate QB problems...maybe the Cats win a championship.
I think thats a stretch, but its not totally implausible.

Re: Choate to Nevada
It’s just crazy to me how big the discrepancy is in head coach pay from the top tier of FCS to a bottom dweller in the MWC.
It’s not even in the same general conversation.
As others have pointed out, this would be my concern with moving to FBS, where does the money come from for the extra scholarships and the extra pay for the coaching staff, etc?

Re: Choate to Nevada
Will be really interesting to see what Choate's staff looks like. Does he bring on any of the guys we had here at MSU? Any of the current staff?
Ioane, Miller, Potter are all at Boise. Also, Bush Hamden (who was initially going to be our OC) is the OC/QB Coach at Boise.
Jimmy Beall at SDSU
Brian Armstrong at Fresno.
Pitre is with the Falcons, where the HC is on the hot seat.
I assume GA is happy back in the NFL and Gregorak is out of football coaching for good.

Re: Choate to Nevada
It would come from the same place everyone else in FBS get their money, TV deals. If Nevada wasn't in the FBS there's no way it could pay Choate 6 mil., all that money is coming from MWC tv deals.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 2:17 pmIt’s just crazy to me how big the discrepancy is in head coach pay from the top tier of FCS to a bottom dweller in the MWC.

Re: Choate to Nevada
I think he said an indoor fieldhouse...might or might not be a distinction from an IPF. Maybe it's a multi-use facility for soccer, track, football, etc. Doubt it's a place where any type of games would happen, but that's what I think of when I think fieldhouse.
Seems less than essential for a place like Reno, but the average high in Reno in August is 93 degrees. The average high in Bozeman in August is 82, and we definitely have days where we have to watch for heat. Plus it can also snow in Reno in November/December, so it's not a bad thing to have. But for years I'm sure they just put up with the one-off days.
