What doesn't look good about it?
Read the next few pages of the below thread starting here. All I'll say is @wbtfg is a trusted source on this information, I have zero reason to doubt his opinion. Sounds like Waded made business decisions that were unpopular with her boss that had a direct result in the upward trajectory of MSU. Hopefully I'm just as wrong about Brock as I was about Waded...

I’m okay with the hire. I hope he finds great success and continues the positive momentum built during Waded’s time.

He’s now a Bobcat so he has my full support and trust.

Like me, I think everyone here has read the old Waded hiring thread and the comments that didn't age well.

So, yeah, great hire, uh, I'm 100% behind him and think he will, uh, do great things! :D

I just hope he isn't a smug, arrogant, aloof, cocky guy. Seems like he's been away from UM for long enough (7 years), so that shouldn't be a problem anymore. He was at UM from 2015 to 2018. MSU beat UM in football in 3 of those 4 years, including twice in Missoula, including the Miracle in Missoula game. He could be mad about that still.

Seriously, the Michigan connection is slightly interesting. Lots of Michigan people around Bozeman and to the south. Being at University of Georgia for 10 years makes me think it's almost impossible that he isn't interested in sports.

I think he's a great pick and I look forward to seeing him on a Spirit of the West uniform soon.

If he’s better than Gamble, he will do just fine. He’s walking into a great situation. Waded built it, he’s just got to take care of it now.

I was pretty sure we had a winner athletics wise when we could run into Wadad walking through the tailgate area. Hope we see this guy there. One could write a note to Wadad and get a personal, handwritten reply. Maybe I'll drop this guy a line and see what the response will be.

While these are pretty small things in the overall realm of running a university, I believe they are pretty big indicators of commitment.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

He wasn’t hired to turn around a fledgling university. He most likely understands that athletics is the front doorstep to our universities success. Leon was on the committee. Let’s welcome President Tessman.

Cue “I’m Not Your Stepping Stone”, Paul Revere & the Raiders, 1966.
That song was The Monkees, not Paul Revere &.the Raiders.

"(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" was first recorded by Paul Revere & The Raiders, not The Monkees. Many other artists have covered it, including The Trashmen, Sex Pistols, and even children's pop duo PJ & Duncan.

Thanks for the correction. I knew it had been covered by other artists, but I always thought The Monkees recorded it originally.

Waded Cruzado had an excellent background to lead a STEM-based Land Grant institution. Not this one. I agree with you.

I think you need some experience as a leader of an agency or organization, along with a strong ability to read the room to become a good president and not too much pride. If you don't have the ability to oversee your workforce and communicate with your constituents, then success will be random. You should have some sort of an outline, but it needs to be flexible enough that you can easily scrap your strongest ideas. If you're only trying to please one person or a small group of people, things will go sideways in a hurry.

The best director we had at the agency I worked at didn't have any background, while the worst one had 20 years or so before taking over. Some background/experience in that particular field is useful, but it isn't a primary feature on a resume. The former used his experience as the head of another agency, while the latter tried to please his own boss.

At least he is not Bodnar at U of missoula. A true spotlight president, unless he has a stage or a TV camera on him he just phones it in.

The State of Montana is Bobcat country.
missoula....still just 20 miles from Montana.
