Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.

It's probably a lot like a football recruiting class in that we'll likely have to wait 2 or 3 years to find out whether it's a good hire or a bad one. I know some people will greatly dislike this hire...then again, many also greatly disliked the Cruzado hire when it happened.

Re: New MSU President
My immediate read of his bio is that this is someone who has jumped around a lot. On the plus side, he does have experience in the state, so he has some idea what he is getting into. He went to Brown, the most liberal of the ivies-- make of that what you will.
For him to get this offer at a youngish age must mean he is a fairly dynamic guy.
But you don't move to Northern Michigan University if you're not really ambitious to be a University President.
My totally wild guess is he will do well with fundraising, etc. but he is also the sort of guy who, if he does well, will leave for wealthier pastures in 5-7 years.
Lets hope for the best.

Re: New MSU President
Has a good bio. Jumps around a lot, but has worked in Montana before (Dean of the Honors College at UM). Seems like Northern Michigan did well under his tenure, with increasing enrollment and retention rates. Athletics seems mediocre-to-bad under his watch except for MBB, but NMU is D2 and I'd imagine it's a tough sell when you're in the same conference and state as Ferris State for football.
Idk, I have a good outlook on this guy. Only downside is I don't think he'll be here for long

Hmmmm, verdict is out I guess. He'll have to prove himself, especially with his connections over west. It's certainly not all about athletics, but they are pretty huge and became very dominant under Cruzado's leadership. Well, MSU became pretty dominant across the board under her leadership. Whomever they hired was going to have to have some pretty big feet to fill her shoes. What size shoe does he wear?

He was a college scholarship athlete (track, 1500 meter I think) and seems very supportive of athletics, so I am optimistic.

I've heard in his interview he made a comment about the importance of athletics. And I've heard that this is the guy we should hire and not get caught up in "he worked at UM".

Honestly would be dumb to hold working in academics at UM over a guy who seems to be very qualified for the job. If anything I view it as a positive since he has experience in higher ed in MT

If he ran steeplechase I would say this is a massive home run. As it is I think this was a very good hire. I'm optimistic.

I would be more concerned if his degree was from UM. At least he was smart enough to leave there.iaafan wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 6:19 pmWould be absolutely hilarious if he turned out to be a kickass prez after having worked at um!damnyoutuesday wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 2:54 pmHonestly would be dumb to hold working in academics at UM over a guy who seems to be very qualified for the job.
