Wehr a Day 1 pick? No way. He’s day 3 or UDFA.BobcatBuiltTexan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 6:48 pmThis is different than where we started. I am under the impression that wehr is a day one guy, at least I think he is. Yes you are correct that any opportunity to get in front of teams is huge for most players. That still doesn't charge the fact that done guys on a car by case basis will choose not to participate at the combine.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 8:43 amIf a player is a lock to get drafted if they don't do combine then why would they do a pro day. So everyone understands the player has less notice of what's going to be done at the combine. Prep for the each drill is essential to impressing scouts. Which has been my WHOLE POINT.... if you do a drill and screw it up it can kill you. When you have a pro day the scouts will trek the coaches the apparatuses or the drills they may do so you actually get to prep for then to really shine. Again some guys do all in any situation since kids don't test well amen certain circumstances don't align well. So some players do what they can to manipulate each situation to their favor.

Re: NFL Combine invites
I've heard of players skipping the combine because they were injured, because they were retiring from football, and when they were an absolute lock to go in the first round. I've never heard of a guy in Wehr's position skipping it, even though it is possible to tank your draft stock there, just by being bad at some field day nonsense that really has nothing to do with football. Players bet on themselves.
The first team that skips the combine is going to win five Super Bowls in a row. For the players it's make or break, but for the teams it's actually worse than useless.

Day One means a first round pick. There is no chance Marcus Wehr goes in the 1st round. That’s not criticizing him as a player, that’s just me being realistic.

Hot take: the new draft format is garbage purely because it made the phrase "first day pick" meaningless.

1. I forgot that day 1 is just first rd now that's on me. I think he's 3rd talent imo....I think he's just that good. I bet we'll may be wrong but I hold him in high regard.
2. I just got home from work and was watching first take...Sanders isn't working out at the combine...Shannon reiterated what I said.... it's very common, you don't like throwing to wrs that you don't know, you throw to wrs that will make you look good. He said it was a sharp move(the segment was sharp or not sharp). Yes I know he's a 1st rd lock but many guys don't workout at the combine as he and I stated because it can kill your draft stock. A lot do go and very on themselves, as I stated. My ONLY point is that it may be a blessing in disguise to not go because you can control a lot of the variables when you workout on your home turf.... that's my only point.

Shannon and Stephen A are absolute homers when it comes to Sanders (both Deion and Shadeur). Anything either does can only be good in their eyes, so of course not throwing at the combine would be spun to be a “smart move.”BobcatBuiltTexan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 7:17 pm1. If I’m picking in the 3 this year, Cam Ward is it. Shadeur’s antics would not jive in a locker room full of veterans.

I don’t disagree with you on not working out when you’re an established top 10 pick, and especially a QB. I love the draft, and I love players who compete, so I’m always disappointed when players hold themselves out of drills, but I understand why top prospects do it, especially if the schedule for drills isn’t conducive to their best times. With all that said though, I just don’t think it would be beneficial at all for a small school late round pick to try to skip anything. They need as much attention and data as possible.BobcatBuiltTexan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 7:17 pm1. I forgot that day 1 is just first rd now that's on me. Pretty interesting on Marcus. I would have thought his showing at the senior bowl would have moved him higher.

While I admittedly never watched him or Bill & Mary this year, I have a hard time believing that Marcus is not as good as or better than the W& M OLman indicated as a 3rd round pick.
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

I have zero inside info and I'm just as surprised as everyone about the lack of buzz around Marcus, but I'll just say sometimes this can be explained with a problem popping up with the physical. Did you get dinged up at the Shrine game that wasn't obvious in the television version? Was there an injury in his training?

Re: NFL Combine invites
Of the players who played in the 2024 Shrine Bowl, their NFL Draft positions were:
Round 1 Picks - 0
Round 2 Picks - 3
Round 3 Picks - 5
Round 4 Picks - 5
Round 5 Picks - 11
Round 6 Picks - 17
Round 7 Picks - 16
UDFA Signing - 83
Even if Wehr improved his draft stock it was probably a move up from the UDFA category into the Round 5 - 7 range where most of the Shrine Bowl players get picked. The Shrine Bowl is definitely a few steps below the Senior Bowl in terms of where those players are likely going to be drafted.
