The thought of pimping out our football program to someone associated with the YC makes me sick to my stomach. Some pretty shady dealings early in the history of its development. Playground for the super egomaniacs in this country. Probably no genuine concern for the school or the team. MSU should think hard about who it wants as bedfellows...

Re: MSU to receive Game Changing Big Gift?
I wonder if it's one of those Sac State type deals where a bunch of rich people pledge millions of dollars on the condition that we move up to the FBS. It gives them and the university publicity but doesn't actually do anything. Hopefully if this is real it's real money.
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Hey, if you're comfortable with tying your wagon to those types of people, have at it. Believe it or not, I can have my opinion as well. I don't feel our program is at a point where it needs to bend a knee to anyone not vested with its success. We've done pretty well up to this point.Hawks86 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 10:25 amDid you send your list of acceptable donors to MSU?Camo_Cat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 10:23 am

Any one else hear of anything?
I left a link to the podcast. He starts talking about it a little before the 38 minute mark…

I think there are some things here that need clarification. I think I know what you mean, but instead of assuming and jumping to my own conclusions....let me ask:Camo_Cat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 10:35 amHey, if you're comfortable with tying your wagon to those types of people, have at it. -What do you mean by bend a knee? Does accepting money from someone in the YC have different strings than accepting money from others?
-Is there a certain process you'd recommend the foundation follow when accepting donations? Nothing from a YC address?

I am genuinely curious what his answer to these are. If we want to grow and continue to be a big time program, we need big time money now more than ever with the NIL and portal. Just as well take advantage of the growth of the area and influx of wealthy people.wbtfg wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 10:49 amI think there are some things here that need clarification. That minimum net worth was only an initial requirement. Today, if you're don't have the ability to pay $20M plus for a second home to spend a few weeks a year at, you're not buying there.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 9:49 amLike you have to be worth so much to even be considered in purchasing a lot on the Mountain.allcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 9:13 amReally, how much?
As with all things, you can view this many ways and there are many differing opinions. However, most will agree that Big Sky has brought a lot of money to the local economy in many ways.

Not sure what this means. Program cannot be sustained without large donors unless we want to price out the typical fan due to increased booster fees just to be able to get tickets. Shouldn't they be looking for any source. That area isn't going away.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 9:53 amIf there is something from YC, I hope MSU is thinking hard about making a deal with the devil and whether it's worth it or not.

Thanks for the questions, @wbtfg. Let's just say that past experiences, personal and professional, have created lasting negative perceptions, and I will just leave it at that. Sometimes an opinion based on those past experiences is all that's needed...BobbyHoax wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 11:03 amI am genuinely curious what his answer to these are. Unfortunately college football is all about money, I don't really like it but its a fact of life today.
I have a lot of faith in our current administration to make the right decisions that impact the future of the athletic department.

Having to put the YC name on things, especially if it was the stadium. Other possible doelwnsides could be the str8ngs attaches to their money. It has nothing to do with the millionaires associated with rhe club, and everything to do with the shady organization itself.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 10:28 amWhat exactly would be the downside?BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 9:53 amIf there is something from YC, I hope MSU is thinking hard about making a deal with the devil and whether it's worth it or not.

Re: MSU to receive Game Changing Big Gift?
It means YC is a shady, corrupt, crappy organization, and we would forever be associated with them if we take their money. We definitely need big donors. YC would be one, but it's not an attractive one.tetoncat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 11:09 amNot sure what this means. I'll take the money from the yuppies, but getting it through YC isn't attractive.

Re: MSU to receive Game Changing Big Gift?
I recall a similar discussion when MSU accepted a bunch of money from Ted Turner and Jane Fonda (back when they were still married). And MSU gave Ted an honorary doctorate. I think that discussion may have been on the previous board, since it was probably before this one started. As predicted, that led to the downfall of MSU. Our reputation has never recovered.
