The way Julius was running in the 3rd, I think everyone thought he’d get a TD in the 4th. Didn’t play out that way.

Re: The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - UC Davis
There is no reason the game should have been as close as it was. Period. The Cats not going for it on a 4th and 2 in opponent’s territory was a very weak call. If they get it, game over. If they don’t, you still have the defense there to stop the other team from getting 15 points in the final 2:30 of the game. That was extremely frustrating.

Not sure if that kick was “immediately driven into the ground, strikes the ground one and goes into the air”.

Provience tipped it first which was a mistake on his part but also would eliminate the opportunity for a fair catch.wbtfg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:07 pmSection 4, Article 1, f: During a free kick a player of the receiving team in position to receive the ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground, strikes the ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly off the tee.

I think the opportunity for a fair catch was already gone because the big hop came on the second bounce, not the first one as the rule requires.Long Time Cat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:15 pmProvience tipped it first which was a mistake on his part but also would eliminate the opportunity for a fair catch.wbtfg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:07 pmSection 4, Article 1, f: During a free kick a player of the receiving team in position to receive the ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground, strikes the ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly off the tee.

Thats fair. I didn’t go back and watch it and couldn’t remember exactly when that big hop came.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:16 pmI think the opportunity for a fair catch was already gone because the big hop came on the second bounce, not the first one as the rule requires.Long Time Cat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:15 pmProvience tipped it first which was a mistake on his part but also would eliminate the opportunity for a fair catch.wbtfg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:07 pmSection 4, Article 1, f: During a free kick a player of the receiving team in position to receive the ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground, strikes the ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly off the tee.

Most disappointing thing was the offense had opportunities to end the game and failed to take advantage. The defense faltered but they found one more play at the end.
The best thing about this game? We just beat the #4 team on the road and are Big Sky champs!

Absolutely! Davis is a damn good team. Especially at home. Great win.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:25 pmMost disappointing thing was the offense had opportunities to end the game and failed to take advantage. The defense faltered but they found one more play at the end.

Re: The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - UC Davis
I know that as fans, its emotionally exhausting to watch the Cats miss on play after play that would have ended the game...
But when you remember that the Aggies needed a generous call from the refs PLUS making some good stops on a guy like Davis running on fire PLUS dink & dunk down the field with no time outs PLUS recover an onside kick PLUS score again PLUS convert a 2 point TD....
In order to get to OT. And I'll take the Cats in OT every day & twice on Sundays.
Even a great team is going to struggle to pull off that set of unlikely circumstances 1 in 10 times.
It felt close, but remember, Davis was never in position to win...and it took a lot of 'lucky' breaks and winning 50-50 matchups to get close to a tie.
Like others have said, the game was never as close as it looked...and not as close as if felt at the time.

Re: The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - UC Davis
Had flashbacks to the NDSU game last year. 4th and short-punt, NDSU inevitably scores a touchdown...season over. Now up 2 scores but similar deal. Vigen needs to go win the thing and not put our gassed defense on the field again. Worst case-we don't get it, but more clock burns. Vigen is way too conservative sometimes.profisme wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:12 pmThere is no reason the game should have been as close as it was. Period. Re: The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - UC Davis
Is it possible that the 1st team defense not playing all 4 quarters in most of the games this season had an effect on the 4th quarter let down? Maybe there was some conservative play calling, but the defense was so dominate in most of the game and had to be gassed those last 6 minutes. The offense not going for it on 4th and 1 (or 2), probably contributed due to the defense not getting a very long break. It's been great for the 2s and 3s to get so much game experience but it may be a detriment to the 1s. Hopefully lessons learned.
Also on that long run by Davis toward the end, it sure looked like he was out of bounds up towards the 20. Besides the phantom PI I think there was a call missed.

Both Oregon and the Bobcats go to 11-0 and both had to overcome adversity on the road to do so.
Greatest fan year of my life and my nephew plays in the AA title game for Glacoer next week in Helena.
31-1 for the three teams I am fans of for the season.

There's no way to definitively know on your question about the first team having not played much in the 4th most games. An argument can as easily be made that they performed so well in the first 3.5 quarters because they were fresher due to their limited play.nanacat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 12:03 amIs it possible that the 1st team defense not playing all 4 quarters in most of the games this season had an effect on the 4th quarter let down? I've taken as close look as I can of that late run down the sideline because I thought there was a good chance that he had stepped out but near as I can tell he didn't step out. There's one step where he is on the ball of his foot and his heel would've been out but he never put his heel down. His next step was very close but not out. Does anyone know if that could've been challenged by the coaching staff?
Crap now you've triggered the OCD in me and I'm going to go back and look again.

I can't find the yards of offense totals anywhere. Only got to watch the 2nd half of the game. Did the Cats get to 307?

Yeah I'm back already and there is one frame that when looked at all by itself looks like his right foot is out but when looked at frame by frame before and after it appears that he was not out. Thank goodness it doesn't matter and I'm at peace with it again.nanacat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:01 amHaha sorryJoe Bobcat wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 12:39 amThere's no way to definitively know on your question about the first team having not played much in the 4th most games.
