I actually meant to add an amendment to this after talking this out with Montana State sports information.

Tommy Mellott currently is credited with 26 "starter" wins. He also should get credit for two more wins that he finished.

The Montana State record is 30 wins by DeNarius McGhee. He broke Paul Dennehy's previous school record in 2012 against Sac State.

Vernon Adams went 28-6 at Eastern Washington. I credited him with 35 wins off the cuff, which is correct for career wins, but he went 7-3 at Oregon.

Dave Dickenson has the Big Sky record 33 wins, including the playoffs.

PS - the fact that Tommy played key roles as a special teams player, back up linebacker, receiver, Wildcat quarterback....even when he wasn't the starting quarterback...means there should be an amendment to this category...Still, if he and the Bobcats win out, he'll tie McGhee's school record. He could beat beat Dickenson if Montana State run the table all the way through Frisco....
McGhee has to have more than 30 wins. The following might not be right but it’s not five off.
2010-8
2011-10
2012-11
2013-6
Total-35

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Wondering if the data is available for Tommy in the category:

Individual- Total Offense Yards, Career (Rushing/Passing)

It would just be interesting to see how his numbers compare to others in rushing and passing.

I believe that stat is on the first page.

The total is listed, but unlike the other guys, Tommy's is not broken down to show how many yards he has for rushing and passing. Unless i'm just not seeing those...

I love this thread every year. I look forward to seeing how things are going. Is there a place to check on the team/individual statistics to this point? Where would I find that?

You’re lucky I’m not Bobby Hauck! lol. Yes, they’re games he started. I don’t think he started the first game of his career, but may have. So 2010 would be 9 if he did. He missed games in 2013 after shoulder injury vs SMU. Hurt shoulder vs NDSU in 2010. I don’t recall any others but he did twist his knee in 2013.

updated from Portland state game:
-added the individual rushing yards/season list, which Humphrey is approaching.
-Tommy passed Prukop for #4 total offense in career.

Side note- People were saying the Team total yards from PSU was #10 all time......... I dont believe that is accurate. I'm guessing they are not taking into account an update from last year (Utah tech game 2023 made the top 10). below is the list that was updated last year (PSU game had 607 yards):
Team- Total Offense Yards, Game
1. 744 Cal Poly, 2022
2. 737 UC Davis, 2014
3. 718 Eastern Washington, 2015
4. 695 North Dakota, 2012
5. 683 Eastern Washington, 2004
6. 654 Idaho State, 2001
7. 652 Black Hills State, 2014
8. 646 at Sacramento State, 2010
9. 638 Utah Tech, 2023
10. 619 at Sacramento State, 2014

Coach Vigen tied Mike Kramer today for the 4th most all-time wins by a head coach. Kramer did it in 7 seasons, Vigen did it in less than 4. If the Bobcats go 12-0 and win the national championship, Vigen would surpass Sonny Holland for the 2nd most all-time wins in Frisco. Hope he sticks around, his recruiting philosophy suggests to me that he's looking to build something long-term here and won't bolt for the first crappy FBS job with a pay raise but also a massive rebuilding project.
i hope he stays until both kids graduate MSU.
Are you sure? I’ve been reliably informed he’s very similar to Rob Ash.
This is a terrible look by any poster.

Thanks for setting everything straight. Do you happen to know what the career records of Tommy and DeNarius are? I believe at one point Tommy had never lost a game that he both started and finished so he can't have many losses at this point, although if we lose after he goes out that counts against him, which is probably a majority of his losses.
DeNarius McGhee was 30-7 as a starter and would've had more wins (and losses) had he not missed time as a senior.

Tommy Mellott won the first 17 games he started AND finished in his career and is 25-3 overall in those scenarios. He has won 26 games and lost six games that he started, although he did not finish three of those.

Seems like the NDSU in 2021 should be like a walk in baseball and not count. He left on the first series of the game after moving the ball down the field.

Mellott’s QB rating is 188.2! That’s a record. Don’t bother looking. No need. Self-evident.

I’m clowning on a few posters who have compared Vigen to Ash because he’s not as intense or charismatic as Choate. As in, “You sure you want him to stay?”

Not everything has to be taken seriously dude.
