That play reminds me of stuff Chambers used to do. Play action into deep ball. Really love where this team is at.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 6:44 pm
If Tommy can hit these passes down the stretch...we are going to be tough to beat. This is the one he missed against Utah Tech otherwise known as the Double Cramp game.

I know Tommy is insanely fast. But it was really noticeable when Wilson came in and ran the ball.

Okay, I prefaced my “leaky” description with the statement that the ones have been good overall…that is a Defense in general reference. However, I do believe that the backfield has been “leaky” which is the opposite of “water tight”.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 11:32 amYou essentially say the 1s are leaky vs pass. But when they have been mixed in its been with say a 2nd team corner with rest of 1s its been fine. That said, particularly for the level of competition tonight and previously, the DB’s have been out of position too often, miscommunicated and missed coverages, and made weak attempts at tackling. The Defense on the whole is better than last year and that is why the scores have been limited. But once we mix in the 2’s and 3’s it’s pretty clear that a good passing attack is going to slice and dice us. I did see some nice plays from one of the back ups in the D backfield that had me encouraged. Rylan Ortt is a banger…so I’m not focused on him necessarily.

I haven't seen the 1s give up long touchdown passes or big play runs. They have given up some plays and first downs but overall been pleased. Seems like they have been working on coverages and schemes. When core group is in i think it's fine. Not sure they are lock down man coverage guys but we don't need that.catsrback76 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 7:47 pmOkay, I prefaced my “leaky” description with the statement that the ones have been good overall…that is a Defense in general reference. At any rate, not sure how you see them, but they are not yet watertight.

Longest scoring play allowed by the #1 defense is a 24-yard run by UNM QB Devon Dampier and that was a gadget play.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 8:34 pmI haven't seen the 1s give up long touchdown passes or big play runs. The two longest scoring plays by opposition are 43 and 41 yard fumble returns by New Mexico and Mercyhurst.

MSU didn't allow a play over 7 yards until after it was ahead 27-0. Allowed pass plays of 21 on a tipped ball, then one for 27 on final UNC drive before half. Only allowed 29 yards on first 18 plays.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

The MSU defense is currently ranked 15th in FCS allowing 4.85 yards per play. That's first in the Big Sky with Idaho coming close behind at #17 and 4.96 yards per play. One would assume that if we could limit that data to plays involving the first team defense only, that yards per play stat would go significantly lower. The MSU defense isn't perfect but I also think they're a lot better than they get credit for here sometimes when we focus more on the missed plays than the made ones.

We are micro-analyzing MSU's defense at a historic level...respectfully. They give up one play over 10 yards and you get a poster saying "geez I wish we could cover better". My takeaways from the first-team defense has been the same since game 1:MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 9:22 amThe MSU defense is currently ranked 15th in FCS allowing 4.85 yards per play. - they are competitive and play hard
- they rally to the ball
- they have All-Big Sky talent at all three levels
- they aren't afraid to be physical
If you have those four, you have a good shot every Saturday.

What I really like is that Daly is aggressive with the blitzing, in terms of number of people sent, and in timing relative to the game. It’s relatively unpredictable. He’s doing a very good job in terms of calling plays.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 9:33 amWe are micro-analyzing MSU's defense at a historic level...respectfully. It wasn't immediate (there was an audible reaction from the crowd when the game ended - people must have had it up on their phones) but I believe they showed the score at the end of the drive that was in progress at the time.

Yes, they absolutely did. Granted there weren't many left in the stadium at that point but they did.

Yeah, the crowd cheered when the score was posted. The players heard the crowd cheering and looked up at the board, saw the score, and a few of them reacted by clapping.

They posted it on the screen about 4 or 5 minutes after the score went final. I was just saying that as soon as it goes final and play is stopped, announce it. Even UNC would have been excited to hear that news.

Depends on game situation. In blowout, go for it. Tight game keep crowds energy on the Cats, then o it in dead ball situation

But why? Its a Bobcat game. Everyone in attendance has a phone and most were following along. I see no reason to make a big deal out of the gris losing. However, I am happy that they are posting scores of all big sky games throughout the day.
