Hey guys, remember when the Politics forum got deleted from this website? Good signal to take your ****** takes on race and racism in America back to Facebook where they belong.
Agreed, unfortunately this is sort of intertwined with an event happening with the football team right now. Everyone is going to have an opinion on it from their political viewpoint. Would be nice if we could talk about sensitive, important subjects with some civility but this thread is just a snapshot of where the country is at this moment, unfortunately. Personal insults are part of the discourse.
Classic "ClownCat" response! Sad!
 I want to respond in kind but in a way that would be just going against the point I just made, don't bait me bro.

The problem for Crews is that he’s White. If he were not white, this wouldn’t have been sleuthed in the first place and if it had people would have disapproved and yet written it off as youthful indiscretion. But our culture holds white people to a different standard because they’ve swallowed the vicious lie that white people are somehow more prone to racism than people of other skin colors. That, ironically, is the open ethnic prejudice that no one actually cares about.
A Black player at a prominent P5 school just had his scholarship pulled for using a racially insensitive term. But, yeah, this just happens to White people. Got it.
I’m not saying that people of other ethnicities are *never* held accountable. But I have eyes and I have ears and it’s perfectly obvious that the culture holds white people to a different standard and assumes that prejudice is part and parcel of so called “whiteness.” It’s not a comfortable thing to say out loud, but it’s true.
You commented specifically on the Crews issue by saying he was only in trouble because he is white. That is one the most ignorant things you have ever said (and there are plenty to choose from).

Many have asked Crews to own up to his mistake (which he has done multiple times), yet some turd fan can’t even apologize for making such a dumb insensitive comment even though he is anonymous.

This is my last post about it: https://www.opensocietyfoundations.org/ ... sentencing
Yeah, so what I would say is this.

If it is in fact true that certain ethnicities are given harsher sentences for similar crimes compared to others (and I have no cause to doubt that), that's clearly wrong, the causes need to be investigated, and the matter needs to be corrected forthwith.

By that same token, the double standard by which whites in our culture are deemed more likely to be prejudiced, more naturally inclined towards prejudice, innately guilty and therefore culpable for societal trends, or judged more harshly for ethnic insensitivity etc. need to be summarily rejected.

Treating people differently or assuming things about them based on skin color is not acceptable. So we basically agree.

I don't know if there's any point in interacting with you, but I'll just correct one thing:

I did not say that Crews was only in trouble because he is white. I said that his problem now, years after the incident, is that he's white. White people are culturally held to a much higher standard when it comes to this sort of youthful stupidity/wickedness on matters of race. If he was not white, we probably wouldn't have known about this in the first place, and we certainly wouldn't still be talking about it in 2023.

That is definitively not the same thing as defending his original comments from three years ago or saying they were only a problem in the first place because he's white.

Likewise, no point in interacting with you. You took a thread about a kid that made a dumb mistake years ago and YOU once again turned it into a racial issue by saying he was still being scrutinized because he is white. There was no need to interject race back into it, especially the way you did. All you did was inflame the issue and create a narrative that you want to interject.

Hauck was trying to bring him on to the Griz as a walk on, just like the Cats are doing. He didn’t have Zac address the team and beg for forgiveness because it was still damn new at the time and there were Griz players (very good ones) threatening to leave the team if he was allowed to join. Once the Kaimin got involved and claimed taking him on would take the Griz backwards 10000 steps, I don’t think Hauck had a choice. It wasn’t that look ago that Hauck had to sit in front of a community panel in Missoula when he was being hired at UM again forced to make promises that the kids will stay out of trouble. It is what it is.
Sounds reasonable and true. I don’t think that will fly around here.
Except that Hauck continually misled the Crews family. He told them them that UM would bring Crews on and then backed out of that promise. Maybe if Hauck had been honest with the family, they could have made educated decisions about what to say in public (like with Butte Sports) and got ahead of any Kaimin article. Hauck’s handling of the situation was extremely poor and has even affected the Griz’s recruiting position with future Sentinel prospects.
Let’s flip the script so we can see how you would handle it…..If you were the coach of the Cats and you tried to bring Crews on after he posted an emoji of a black man with a gun to his head and used the “N” word and it was made public by former Cats players on social media publicly calling out MSU and its coaches….then you had at least 10 current players from your Cats roster telling you they are entering the portal if Crews is allowed an opportunity….then you have Cats players saying “no we don’t need or want him to come in and explain his side and apologize”…..how do you handle it? Serious question…please share how you would handle this as I’m very intrigued.

Hauck isn’t perfect, but in this situation he could have blown up the entire team/program by letting him join. Did he piss off Zac and the family with that decision….sounds like it. Would I rather he piss off the Crews family than blow up the program…1000000000000000000000000%.

Again, how do you handle it?

Correct. I interjected my opinion of the situation on a forum. That’s what a forum is.

Should I rather spend my time aggressively attacking everyone who says something I don’t like? Is that what you think a discussion board is for?

Alright, this is unfortunately going nowhere at this point except off topic. I get that this is a topic that has a whole lot more than football going on with it and behind it but I'm going to ask that folks just maybe step away and take a break from the personal opinions and back and forth. This is a valid topic, just asking for some civility in the discourse...I know, for some that seems near impossible in this day and age but maybe we try and hold ourselves to a better standard? If you can't just be civil then just step away from this thread please.

He could have been honest with the Crews family and told them that it was not going to work out. Then they could have pursued other options. Instead, he lied to them and drug it out. Geez, that was easy…

The sports reporters have picked up the story on twitter. Expect multiple articles rehashing the story.
F-u-c-k the reporters and the horse they rode in on. This is no longer a story. It's a bunch of woke bitches beating a dead horse. And for anyone who thinks they need some response, as to why he's a Bobcat? Go pound sand!
The storyline coming out now from the reporters is about how UM/Hauck screwed Crews over. You and HLC are so wound up about who’s woke that you can’t take the time to even understand what the actual issue is. Which is probably par for the course.
Everyone has understood for a year now that people wanted to end his football career over a private joke when he was a junior in high school. You can act sensitive about the words people use to describe that but that's the actual issue.
The current storyline is about UM fans et al wondering why UM didn’t keep Crews. At this time it isn’t about what Crews did. That has become a secondary issue.

There is, however, some bad reporting going on relative to this.

One of my guilty pleasures in life, aside from nicotine and sweet sweet bourbon whiskey, is messing with Lucas and his little homies on the bird app. I think he's a ice enough human, but her has his nose buried so far up Bobby's backside that he can even smell how shi**y his own reporting is. And, for that, I am grateful.

Hahahaha....that dude is just so, so, so bad. His stories read like fanboy message board posts. I think he just desperately wants to be liked by the fan base, and most of all, Bobby.
I’m glad other people are noticing this. Acts more like a little fan boy groupie than a so called professional journalist.

I reached out to Zac directly and congratulated him on becoming a Cat. He was thankful for the support, appreciative and humble. The kid made a mistake at age 17. MSU is giving him a second chance he deserves. Put him with a leader like Tommy Mellott and he will be fine.

If you think 17 year old people making mistakes is new, read the literary classic Confessions written by St. Augustine. The actions of Zac Crews pale in comparison at age 17 relative to St. Augustine at the same age. Just sayin.....

He could have been honest with the Crews family and told them that it was not going to work out. Then they could have pursued other options. Instead, he lied to them and drug it out. Geez, that was easy…
And completely wrong.. …which I agree is par for the course with you

I reached out to Zac directly and congratulated him on becoming a Cat. He was thankful for the support, appreciative and humble. The kid made a mistake at age 17. MSU is giving him a second chance he deserves. Put him with a leader like Tommy Mellott and he will be fine.

Sure ya did, Cat4lyf

Whether with the 'Cats or the frizz or somebody else, I'm happy to see the kid get a shot. Once dumb mistake should not crush a kid's dream.

The sports reporters have picked up the story on twitter. Expect multiple articles rehashing the story.
gris media is going to try and make as big of a deal as possible.
And it won't go anywhere if they do. I think the large majority of both Cat and Griz fans agree that he made a bad mistake but has apologized, paid significant consequences, and now deserves a second chance. If any Griz fans are upset it will likely be because Crews didn't get that second chance with them.
This is it, in a nutshell

"One of the greatest feelings in the world, moving someone from point A to point B against their will"

Mitch Brott - 2019 Cat / Griz
