Chatty and the Sweet 16 next year? Heh. You are a certifiable fu*ktard Slingblade, if you think that's going to happen.

The truth is, you fit the persona of a fan who only began to cheer for a team when they became very successful. There are fans from each school who have been cheering for their respective teams since before your immature ass was ever born and you're an example of one of those bad apples that everybody speaks of when they talk of "those types of fans".

You further display your ignorance by talking of reputations and having only one shot of glory. Which school actually had championship victories and appearances OVER A DECADE before the griz even sniffed a championship? Where were you? Were you even a fan of the griz then? Were you even born yet? The truth is, MSU put this state on the map football-wise but in the mid 80's we fell into a long run of struggles and the tide shifted with towards the griz with a million dollar DW investment that helped catapult the griz and thus taking over that success that MSU had built up in the state. I can only imagine with your clearly blatant omission of these facts that you're either a complete idiot or weren't even born yet. No longer do you see the griz always winning the recruiting battles or the games on the field. Until the BSC tournament last year, you didn't see any real domination from the men's basketball team. I guess I'm just interested in how your point of view only has centered around the recent years of griz sports. For the most part, those recent years have equated to great success (at least in FB). It also tells me that you weren't a fan at all before the success really starting building up. No wonder even people on egriz ridicule you at times.

First off, Ive missed about 3 home games in the past 10 years so to say I havent been here is straight up stupid. And I really started getting into basketball 4 years ago when Fat Kennedy got hired so there goes all your means of arguement out the window. If you are going to sit here and make fun of me because I wasnt born earlier than I am sorry if you have nothing better to with your time than that. You can claim to "put football on the map" in montana but a national title in 1984 didnt do much for you since you have sucked every since then with the exception of two years from Lulay. You can think what you want about DW and us getting lucky or whatever you want but FACT is that Grizzly football is top 3 in 1-AA and whether you like to admit it or not we an overall better program than you.

Basketball has been a stalemate the last 15 years unless we are talking about going to the dance. We are the back to back Big Sky champs and have potentially one of the best teams in big sky history coming up this year. Coach K is the truth and I hope you start believing that.

I compare Griz/Cat to Lakers/Clippers. Me being a big Lakers fan, I kind of look at the Clippers like my little brother that is growing up before my eyes. Yeah they had a better season than us this year and beat us three times but am I ready to start comparing the two franchises? I look at the Cats the same way. The Cats are the Griz's little sibling. That is just the way I look at it. IF you honestly believe that the Cats have a shot at Chatty this year then I feel sorry for you. Lulay is gone and YES your shot at glory with your best quarterback in history and one of the best teams in school history is gone! Griz>Cats

PS:What about womens basketball?

It's kind of amusing to have the history of Griz football told by Cat fans. Amusing, but not very accurate. Through the tenures of Swarthout, Davison and Donovon, Griz football was on the upswing prior to Read coming to UM. During that time, however, they "temporarily" played at Dornblazer for more than 20 years longer than anticipated. Dornblazer was the worst facility in the BSC, if not the nation, and a lot of people worked extremely hard for a long time to get WA-Griz. As noted earlier in this thread, WA-Griz was an infinite improvement over Dornblazer when it was built, but IMO at that time it merely put the Griz on par with the rest of nation in terms of facilities. If I remember correctly, Denny Washington did not contribute any money to its' construction, but instead contributed services and the use of his equipment to build it.

Read took Griz football to the next level, and the facilities continued to improve for this reason: UM administrators had the vision to make the improvements while the Griz won over an extended period of time. The endzone seats were built after the success of the 89 season and the north endzone seats were expanded after the 95 season as major improvements, but improvements have made to the facilities every year since it was built. A major factor in both the Griz winning and the improvement of the facilities can be attributed to Reno, Idaho and Boise going 1-A, leaving UM as the only big dog left in what was otherwise an undistinguishable conference. A lot of people may not have liked Hogan, but you have to give him credit for making WA-Griz what it is today.

While the entire history of Montana football to a Cat fan may only exist for the years between 1955 and 1985, both the Griz and the Cats have been playing for over 100 years. Both have had good years, and both have had bad. I give the Cats credit for putting the State on the national scene with their 84 championship, but I believe you're sadly mistaken if you think what the Cats' had merely "shifted" to the Griz. The Griz took it to a new level, but it did not occur overnight. The planning for WA-Griz began before the Griz moved into their "temporary" facilities at Dornblazer in the early 60s, and continues today. You may not like the Griz, but every program in the country is trying to emulate our recent success and our facilities.

The point I guess I am trying to make is that there were and are alot of people involved with the Griz success both before and after Denny Washington. Yes, he made a major contribution but to claim all institutions can do what Montana did by merely giving them an infusion of cash completely underestimates what UM has accomplished.

Know I know your smoking something.

Interesting revision of your history though.

SO it's called WASHINGTON-Grizzly stadium because Denny Washington let UM borrow his equipment...Right

Not sure if he's right or wrong about that... some or all of the $1 Million could have been a "donation in kind". But no matter, BR is absolutely right-on-the-mark about the most important point: Many, many more than DW put in time and money to make Wa-Griz what it is today - the most hated landmark in the World by sc@s fans. More and better to come, boys.

The Cat Box is frankly an embarrassment. Please, get to it. Or, be forever doomed to - well - just bitch.

I didn't realize whether Washington's donation was in kind or not was going to cause such a stir. I seem to remember that it was in kind, but perhaps I remember that in substance that is what occurred. In other words, he may have made a $1 million cash donation to UM, and then UM paid him the $1 million back as part of his compensation for building the facility. I know this may strain your engineer brains, but except for perhaps having different tax attributes, the two scenarios in substance are the same.
