recruiting updates

Post by Platinumcat » Mon Oct 31, 2005 4:12 pm

I know the coaches did some recruiting over the bye week. Anybody have some recruiting updates on Montana kids and beyond?

Expect a bunch of USC transfers next year. They have too much talent and they can't all play!

gtapp - please tell us more! I have mixed feelings about transfers - we need to build a team with lots of 4 year players but given our obvious holes next year - some players from a team like USC will really help!

He might want to wipe it up before it stains something. By the way, Selle and few others were on the sideline before the game talking with Jeff Fisher and a couple others. I hope they are planning on coming to the Cat/Griz game as well and being on our sideline, not the Griz's.

Do you mean Eric Fisher? He was the kicker for West.

My bad, I was thinking Geoff Groshelle and talking about Eric Fisher. Yes, and by the way, Groshelle is very high on Fisher's abilities.

Eric needs to be doing kickoffs for us. I've seen him kick balls out of the endzone in high school. He is more than capable of handling the job.

Offensively the Cats are looking for a qb, 2 linemen and 4 wideouts. I don't have any answers for the defense yet, but as a team they are not going to take as many kids this year. That is due to the fact that the defense is very young now. The receivers will more than likely(read "preferred") be older players. In state they are really interested in 3 kids on offense right now. Obviously, Selle has been offered and was at the game on Saturday. Glendive has a lineman of interest as well.

I thought Eric was redshirting, so he will be able to do that for the next 4 years.

He is, but we need it this year.

There is a BIG boy playing for Stanford (MT) this year (6' 4or5, 295-305). I don't know his name, but he sounds like a good O-lineman to me! Anyone know who I am talking about?

Nevermind - found him on maxpreps.com

94 Wacy Deegan 6-4 295 Senior G, DL

Link

We need to get him!

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Deegan is not that good. He doesn't have very good feet, just the size. The Person kid from Glendive is very good. Have to get Verlanic from Drummond. Heard the coaches like Wells from Billings West and one of their DBs. Libby has a good defensive lineman.

Are the coaches looking at Wells as a LB or RB? They are probably looking at Eli Johnson or Mike Rider as the DB from West. I think they also need to look at getting Shawn Harcharik as a LB as well. He is huge Cat fan and he is an excellent tackler.

Kramer does a great job convincing kids to walk-on and earn a scholarship. Maybe this is what is in store for these kids. Two of our stars on defense are former walk-ons and have earned full rides. Force and Daly.

Verlanic Kid will be a stretch, wants to play d-line->UM losing several DT's and atmosphere is great

The Cats really need to go after the Reynolds kid, someone on here said they thought he verballed to UM, not true, he wants to be an MSU kid, despite some beliefs, the Cats really aren't recruiting him. Isn't Billings Wests whole o-line good? How many are seniors?
