Yes, we're ahead, BUT...

Post by El_Gato » Sat Oct 21, 2006 3:10 pm

It almost looks like we're trying to set a new standard for HORRIBLE special teams play.

Yes, we've had some good returns by Lewis & Austin, but we've had a penalty on nearly every kick, the ridiculous play at the goal line by Lewis, and are you seriously telling me that we don't have a SINGLE player on our roster who was a conventional punter in High School?

The D looks good and the O looks good enough, but if we don't win this game, a large part of the blame should go squarely on our punt units; they are essentially responsible for 9 of Weber's 12 points.

Grizzlies: 2-5 when it matters most

You are absolutely correct. They almost cost us the game last week. What is it with our "not so special" teams??

As Ron White almost once said "You can't coach stupid". I know this has to ultimately fall on Kramer's shoulders. But seriously! Blatant blocks in the back? Forgetting if you are on punt return or punt team (at least that's what it looked like on Lewis' play at the goal line on the safety.
And, finally as Dr. Evil would say "throw me a friggin' bone people"

The blocks in the back have to stop! It is being called on every play and is killing our starting field position. Just think how many points we could score if we started on the 30+ yard line each time. At least 2 of those this past week were just blatant out of the play type pushes in the back. WE CANNOT HAVE THAT this next week or it could cost us. Weber looked VERY impressive against the Griz in all 3 areas and they will be coming to knock us off on our home field this week. I love the tenacity/confidence we are playing with, but if a guy has his back to you just can't hit him in the back and expect the refs not to see it. It's better that you don't block the guy and let the return guy try and beat him than to block him in the back and back us up 10 yards etc.

I agree 100%. If the defender has his back to you....DON'T TOUCH HIM!!!!!!! Let the return man try and beat him because it is called every single time.

I agree and add, if the returner is by you, turn around and block the defenders coming from the back side. The hit from behind on lewis almost killed us (and knocked Lewis sensless).

Yeah, that guy was drooling for that hit for about 7-8 yards away :) Vicious hit!

I think Dane Fletcher has had a PF on return teams almost every game so far. Yet he routinely makes tackles on kick teams... I wonder if he is just a hot head, or what. Those PF's are really getting old.
