NAU's "hurry-up" offense

Post by longhorn_22 » Sat Sep 30, 2006 5:56 pm

Everyone made such a big deal about NAU's hurry-up offense going into this game that I was a bit concerned. After watching the first half, I came to the conclusion that it's nothing special at all. Yes, they don't huddle, but Murietta still calls the plays at the line and spends most of the play clock doing so. He looks like Peyton Manning out there. As much time as he spends calling a play at the line, it shouldn't even be close to being called a hurry-up offense.

I think we are very lucky that they have had at least 2 long dropped passes in the first half. We would not be winning if those had been caught.

But it still makes it tough to make defensive substitutions because if you try he will call the snap and catch us.

You are right on that one. Whatever our pass D has been doing isn't helping too much. They need to buck up.

The pass defense needs some work, but Murrietta had a great game and showed why he was one hell of a competitor. The coverage needs work, but hopefully that will improve as the season goes on.

Lulay is gone... Great win without him. Life goes on after Lulay.

I realize that Lulay is gone, my worry was that Murietta was about to do to us what Lulay had done to many teams over his career.
