Think these refs are bad, Idaho got hosed.
Looks like the Idaho game got some publicity.

Great, now we're going to have the same refs as last week...

Did you see the video? It was bad. Like real bad. Guys entire foot was like a full foot out of bounds. Called a catch. Bad enough. Then a review (which we’re very familiar with after Davis) and CONFIRMED a catch! Absolutely egregious.

I saw it and it was egregious. It also was critical in the outcome of the game. The fact the conference did something about it is a positive.

The part that is concerning is how does that impact next week with scheduling. Hopefully some folks are in reserve and can run a tight ship.

There is generally one or two crews off each week, with guys available to fill in if necessary.

I believe it was Sam Herder who explained that Big Sky refs are without mentors because there is no PAC 12 any longer. Apparently there was some sort of relationship between those two legs. And it certainly shows at times it’s a tough job to do, but it would be better I think if they had a little bit more mentorship

Agree that it was a terrible call. That said, officials are human and make mistakes....terrible calls are going to happen. Ideally, the BSC should have a process in place to catch mistakes so they don't affect the outcome of the game.

I'd be curious to know how this process failed. How did the replay official and the referee both come to the determination that was a catch? Are they both just stupid and blind or was there a hole in the process?

It might have been Akem on his analysis saying that in FBS they have more camera angles available, like every possible one, and the BSC is limited on how many angles they can see on replay. He says the Big Sky needs to step up because this type of stuff should not be happening. And he's right.

The replay review process was implemented to give the officials some breathing room to catch their human mistakes. This appears to be a situation where it wasn't a mistake. Replay isn't going to force you to correct an error if you don't want to.

I'm sure they don't want to do this but the NCAA needs to open investigations for these kinds of calls. They probably should look into the refs for our game as well but definitely for this Sac-Idaho game.

I mean, that's what it looks like.

However, I have a hard time believing that at least 3 officials conspired to make a blatantly wrong call intentionally.

According to the crew, they did not have all the camera angles available that even the TV broadcast had, thus the inability to overturn the call. I could be wrong, but I believe that is the same area of the field the controversial called happened in the Sac State/UM game a couple years ago, and replay couldn't overturn the call.

If that's true the head of officiating for the conference should be fired. How can people watching at home have more camera angles than the guys calling the game?

So when something happens once, that's a human error. When the same error happens multiple times, that's a process error that obviously hasn't been fixed. The Big Sky Commish should be suspending himself for not fixing something that has already been identified as a problem.

That's a great question. It's a problem in other sports as well, especially in the less prominent conferences. New Mexico softball has two camera angles available for replay; they don't even use the broadcast angles from the Mountain West Network. Doesn't make much sense.
