Curious if anyone has heard anything yet regarding east side grandstand replacement/expansion? Perhaps way too early since the indoor facility just got built, but I don't want to take the foot off the gas regarding stadium expansion.
You know that "rumor" everyone was wondering about? Full renovation, two levels, and boxes across the top. Will get us close to 30,000...I think.
Vim, you do always seem to know what you are talking about. However, I can’t tell for sure if this post is serious, or if you are using the sarcasm font?
At this point I don't think it's really a rumor anymore. The question to me is not if, but when...

I don't even think its much of a rumor anymore for what its worth. If you talk to anyone in the Athletic Department and/or attached to it in any way, the "big gift" has been centered around east side renovation and expansion since the rumor started. The only thing I (or most fans) didn't really know was how big they were going for. From what I've heard talking to people at two home games, the new plans for the east side lay a foundation where you are looking at a future stadium renovation and expansion where the box seats surround the middle and then more seating runs above them...not just box seats at the top of the one level. The first round of construction may just have box seats at the top like the west side but Leon & Co. know what is coming in the future with the university and program. We might as well get after it now instead of waiting to do it when we "move up" or whatever its going to look in the future with college football. Anyway, its going to be impressive and the $$ are over 50 million...possibly 60 in terms of what the price tag is going to be. A "big gift" will be part of that total.
There you go everyone. Get on the phones and start talking about how you are going to handle the sun and cold in your upper upper level seats on the east side on the 50. Hope the wind isn't coming from the Southwest!

Wait so adding enough extra seating with an east side expansion to get up to 30k? What kind of timeline we talking about? Those of us who aren’t in the know or have connections assumed that it was fake rumors

The timeline is the same as it's always been: eventually.
Eventually will come sooner than later if this "big gift" actually materializes. Unless everyone involved between the ADs office, consultants, big donors are all idiots, something similar to what Vim is describing has always been the plan going back way more than a decade. It sounds like they aren't idiots. Box seats are a good way to boost funding the construction and ongoing budget and the east side was always going to be replaced at some point. I'm still holding out hope that we actually enclose the south end zone so it truly wraps all the way around as well.

Hearing you might get your wish there...at least on the Southeast side. They'll eventually want to revamp the West side as that would be the oldest part of the stadium after the East renovation happens. I think we'll always have the north side open but the bigger plan is to bowl in the rest. Horseshoe!

That’s a big project. Really hope it comes to fruition. I wonder if the Cats may have to play in an alternate location for a year while it’s underway?

Doubtful. I'm sure any construction would be done in stages that can be completed before the season starts or to not interfere much with games played during the year.
I'm sure construction delays will happen though and that could cause issues.

@VimSince03 To be clear, are you saying the university will soon reveal plans and begin raising funds, or that they will soon reveal plans and the money is already in place?

An earlier post in this thread has me thinking: With the way Bozeman has been growing, how big do you think we could make the stadium and still sell out regularly? Obviously, ticket pricing would play a factor, but let's just say at current prices. O/U 25k? 30k?
First and goal, clock winding down. That's Humphrey! It's TOUCHDOWN MONTANA STATE!

I would tweak your question a little. Switch Bozeman to MSU. I don't know that many of the people moving to Bozeman, or Montana in general, are becoming Bobcat fans and going (or desiring to go) to games. The future demand for tickets is more correlated to the growth in alumni and the success of the team.
If we had a 25K stadium tomorrow we would sell out the next two seasons but after that we probably wouldn't sell out the Mercyhurst and San Diego type games once all the people that are currently shut out realize they're only getting half a game. However, with the growth of the fanbase that would fill in most of those gaps. If we had a 30K stadium we would sell out Gold Rush and any big game but probably not the others until the fanbase caught up (another decade?).

Make the prices low enough and they’ll sell out every game.

I have to believe that MSU would sell out a 30,000-seat stadium for the Gold Rush and Homecoming games every year and Cat-Griz every other year. Other games could have creative, discounted prices, as BB sort of says, and that would probably get you close enough to capacity for the San Diegos of the world.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

What about students? There is very high demand there. I would assume with a larger stadium the number of student tickets would too. Also, myself and I plenty of other people I know who are not season ticket holders really want to goto games but do not come because they can’t get enough tickets seated together. I think the demand is there, 30k seems perfect.

I didn't consider expanding the student section. That's definitely a couple thousand more at least right there. I'm probably underestimating the demand for tickets. 25K probably would easily sell out every game but once you get up to 30K it gets harder to consistently sell full price tickets to games against bottom-dwellers.

With no evidence, I feel like 22-25k permanent seats is the sweet spot. Plus however many SROs they can fit
