BTW, following the fake, the Griz took a knee. No running up the score, the Griz ran and extra play because SDSU called a TO, what difference does it make if it was a fake punt or a punt?
You and most Griz fans who supported this stupid decision by Hauck totally missed the main point by Rial. That is, why would a coach risk getting his punter (second string because the first string punter was already hurt) injured with the meanigless fake punt?
It was a stupid act of false bravado, called by an insecure head coach who takes everything personal. His actions were consistant with his personality, which is exactly why he is a poor spokesperson for UM football, I am asshamed to say. All you have to ask yourself, as a Griz fan, is this question, "would Read, Dennehy, or Glenn have done the same thing"? The answer should be obvioius. Besides being classless, it was stupid to risk injury on a meaningless play.
The "SDSU called time out" excuse is lame. Maybe their coach wanted to get a look at some of his offensive subs during game conditions, so he wanted to run a few plays after the punt. Maybe he wanted to try to score, so that the defeat would not look so bad back home. Whatever the reason, Hauck obviously took the time out call in a personal, paranoid manner. You can spin it any way you want, which is what most Griz fans tend to do, even when they are wrong. But, you can never convince this Griz fan that is was not a classless, poor coaching decision.
I am glad that Rial had the guys to call him on it. Hauck's response to what Rial wrote was also classless, calling him a knucklehead. Hauck is the most insecure head coach I have ever seen. If he ever moves up to Div.I, he will be crucified by the media, especially with his current attitude.
