Seeding for Big Sky Tournament
Has anyone figured out how the seeding is starting to look for the men? If we lose at Portland State on Thursday will that pretty much mean we will have to play on the first day of the tournament, March 8?

Re: Seeding for Big Sky Tournament
I happened to be looking at this. There are plenty of opportunities to skip the first day for the Cats even with a loss to PSU. Beating Sac St is an absolute must, and then some help with NAU losing to UNC (likely) and ISU on the road. If this team earns two wins (Sac St, Idaho) and NAU manages to beat UNC and ISU on the road, there would be a tie breaker for the #6. Don't know how that would play out since the teams split. Otherwise beating Sac St and Idaho would, in all likelihood, earn a #6 seed at the minimum since I don't see NAU winning out.

Thanks! I'm planning to go to Boise and I'm just trying to figure out if I need to be there on Saturday.ClowderUp wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 1:08 pmI happened to be looking at this. It's almost impossible to say because so many teams are bunched up. If the men beat PSU they're very likely to be top 6, if they lose to PSU then it gets muddier but they've still got a great shot at it with two very winnable games (@Sac, vs Idaho) to end the regular season. Root for Idaho State to beat EWU and Idaho this weekend as MSU is essentially two games behind ISU right now (-1 game in the standings and would lose the tiebreaker due to ISU win over the Griz). PSU and ISU can finish above us and be the 3 and 4 seeds - we just want EWU, Idaho, and NAU to lose as many games as possible so that the Bobcats finish ahead of at least two of those three. If I had to guess I'd say there's about a 70/30 chance in favor of MSU finishing in the Top 6.

Women will 99.9% for sure be playing at noon on Sunday. If the men slip up they will likely play the 8PM game on Saturday so plenty of time to drive to Boise on Saturday and catch the game.MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 5:43 pmIt's almost impossible to say because so many teams are bunched up. Big Sky just posted if the tournament started today…
Cats most likely noon on Sunday, where’s the pre-party at in Boise this year?

All of the pre-functions are at Parilla Grill in Downtown Boise. Times will depend on when the men and women play on any given day. There will be only one get-together per day though. Foundation website will have all the updates.

Check on that one. Crazy end - Weber tipped it in last second to break the tie and win.

Re: Seeding for Big Sky Tournament
Does it even matter? This team clearly doesn't have what it takes this season. Four in a row is probably getting greedy. My only expectation for our men's team is to see them sitting in the front row in Boise and cheering their butt off for our women's team. I'm afraid they'll be disappointing even in how they do that.

Re: Seeding for Big Sky Tournament
I can see the men losing again on Saturday and going in as the 7 seed, beating EWU in the first game and then pulling the upset against UNC in the quarters. But that's about it, I think they're done as soon as they have to play UM or PSU. Maybe even ISU. Perhaps there's a guy named Ron Homestead on the practice squad they can call up for Boise.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 11:22 pmDoes it even matter? Are there rooms or anything in Boise where there's a deal for the Tournement? Or a decent but cheaper place to stay for a night or two?

Re: Seeding for Big Sky Tournament
I have an odd enjoyment of figuring out complicated tiebreakers, so here are the current seedings for the men's and women's standings after Thursday's games. All teams have now played 16 games which makes things a bit simpler.
Men's
1 - UM (14-2)
2 - UNC (13-3)
3 - ISU (9-7), 1-1 H2H vs PSU, 1-1 vs UM wins tiebreaker
4 - PSU (9-7)
5 - Idaho (7-9), 2-1 H2H vs MSU and NAU
6 - NAU (7-9), 2-2 H2H vs MSU and Idaho
7 - MSU (7-9), 1-2 H2H vs NAU and Idaho
8 - EWU (6-10)
9 - WSU (5-11)
10 - Sac (3-13)
MSU vs Idaho on Monday will obviously go a very long way to ultimately deciding seedings. Idaho has a win over UNC which gives them the tiebreaker over MSU if the two teams finish tied. If the Bobcats lose at Sac tomorrow they're in big trouble unless Idaho gets upset by Weber.
Current Men's Bracket
(9) WSU vs (10) Sac, winner faces (1) UM
(4) PSU vs (5) Idaho
(7) MSU vs (8) EWU, winner faces (2) UNC
(3) ISU vs (6) NAU
Women's
1 - MSU (16-0)
2 - NAU (14-2)
3 - Idaho (9-7), 1-0 H2H vs Weber wins tiebreaker
4 - WSU (9-7)
5 - ISU (7-9), 1-1 H2H vs UM, 2-0 H2H vs Idaho wins tiebreaker
6 - UM (7-9), 1-1 H2H vs ISU, 0-2 H2H vs Idaho loses tiebreaker
7 - UNC (6-10), 2-0 H2H vs EWU wins tiebreaker
8 - EWU (6-10)
9 - Sac (5-11)
10 - PSU (1-15)
Bobcats need one more win for outright championship!
Current Women's Bracket

Re: Seeding for Big Sky Tournament
I didn’t want to pay the downtown rates of over $200 a night. So I’ve stayed at the Red Lion Downtowner which rsn between $60-90 a night. About a mile away but Uber was quick and convenient. I know two guys staying there this year. Breakfast was good. But some folks don’t like neighborhood…older rooms but they were clean. Close enough that I walked to arena if weather was good and it was daylight.
I’ve also stayed out closer to airport at Comfort Inn or LaQuinta. They ranged from $90-120 a night. 15-20 min to downtown with Uber.
Home2Suites is hard to beat only two blocks away but you have to pay for it, very nice…I stayed there two years but they’ve priced me out. Sure convenient for going to and from between sessions or parting DT with fans.

Re: Seeding for Big Sky Tournament
The range of possible seeds for MSU has been narrowed to 5, 6, or 7 after today's games so far.
If UNC beats NAU tonight, MSU clinches a Top 6 seed. Even if MSU loses and NAU wins on Monday and finish tied, MSU would hold the tiebreaker advantage thanks to its 1-1 record vs PSU compared to NAU's 0-2. The MSU/Idaho game on Monday night would determine the 5 and 6 seeds.
If NAU beats UNC tonight, MSU is the 5 or 6 seed if they beat Idaho on Monday (5 if ISU beats NAU, 6 if NAU beats ISU) or the 7 seed if they lose to Idaho. In this case NAU would win a tiebreaker over MSU due to its win over UNC.

UNC beats NAU which clinches a Top 6 seed for MSU. Winner of the MSU/Idaho game will be the 5 seed, loser will be the 6.

Not quite since the quarters are 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. The 6 seed will probably be bracketed with PSU and UM, the 5 with ISU and UNC. I'll take Door #2 from those two options with Logie's March surprise 2025 edition.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 01, 2025 11:10 pmSo all we’re playing for is who wears the white jerseys?
