Hey now, my parents have a Tulikivi soapstone fireplace (Finnish) that is their main heating source. They burn about 6 cords of wood per season. So yes, there are likely many people on BN who cut, split, stack, and burn firewood for heat. Harvesting firewood out of the mountains is actually one of my favorite fall traditions. With the 3-point mounted hydraulic wood splitter - which has paid for itself many times over - all it takes is tractor and some able bodied folk. Can fill the woodshed in an afternoon! The Big Bad Wolf wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 5:11 amThese stories are truly crazy. I promise you that the rest of the country is not aware of these things. They think of Montana (much like New Mexico) as a backwards place where people live in self-built cabins and chop firewood for cooking and heat. I am truly starting to understand why you guys hate the series Yellowstone so much. It seems to have ruined things for the people who have lived there the longest and have the most to lose. That makes me feel very sad.

Not unlike Bozeman 30 years ago.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 12:36 pmI guess it depends on who you ask. It’s a growth rate that’s probably not healthy, being somewhat beyond the ability of the city to have positive control over its fate, and eating a lot of high-quality farmland. The Big Bad Wolf wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 11:56 amIs that a good or bad thing?Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2024 11:30 amNo one knows the current population. But it’s probably 517 more since the time you wrote the question. And probably 534 more by the time you read this. The Big Bad Wolf wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 7:49 pmWhat is the population of Bozeman today, and what will it be on the day of your championship game?![]()

Same here in New Mexico (especially in the mountainous regions), but my point was that there are many modern homes in Bozeman and other options. A lot of people where I am for instance, simply use their fireplace as a luxury - throwing expensive drink glasses in like Yellowstone!grizzh8r wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 9:58 pmHey now, my parents have a Tulikivi soapstone fireplace (Finnish) that is their main heating source. This article seems to sum things up pretty well.

There hasn't been a dirt street near the mint bar in well over half a century. maybe the ally but its been gravel all my life, but that's not a street. This was 2018, and I was sitting in the middle of the dirt street outside the Mint Bar in Livingston, Montana.
Last time I was there (over 10 years ago) the Mint had became a fashionable touristy place any way.
This guy is dishing out the same BS that the show does. I quit reading after that line.

You should have kept reading because he describes why the street was dirt, it was torn up because of road construction and repaving. The bar set some seats up on the dirt road.cats2506 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 9:40 amThe Big Bad Wolf wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 6:05 amThis article seems to sum things up pretty well.

"This wasn’t the Old West, only routine maintenance: Public works was re-doing all of downtown and had closed the streets to cars and ripped up the asphalt. The Mint took advantage of the situation and put some chairs and tables in the middle of the street."

Alright, but you gotta admit that first paragraph was pretty deceptive is the way it was presented.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 9:48 amYou should have kept reading because he describes why the street was dirt, it was torn up because of road construction and repaving. I did read another paragraph and I don't know when Livingston had an afternoon daily, maybe it did in 2018.

Yeah, if I want to watch a home game for the 'Cats, I have to drive 2 hours home, then back. More driving than football. It's just something we do around here. Long road trips are not a problem for MT folk. On the flipside, airline / charter / booster event hostage situations freak us out. I can't make it to Frisco this year, but Nashville in the future is a drive worth taking.
