New sound system

Post by nutman » Sat Sep 21, 2024 1:18 pm

The sound system still hurts your ears. Great sound system, but I am not sure the technicians are dialing in for a good sound. That’s too nice…. It’s terrible. Sounds terrible. The treble is way too high.

Having worked with sound systems and volume for groups of people, all I can say is that “everyone has an opinion” on what the sound should be. “Turn it up”… “turn it down”… more this, less that…. BUT, a decibel meter is a simple and easy way to tell how much sound is going out into the stadium in each zone. Keep it in the Rock and Roll zone, and call it good and let people get used to the new realities.

I thought today's management of music when the Cats were on offense was much improved (vs. Gold Rush where music was blaring as the Cats were on offense up to the moment they approached the line). There were still a few head scratchers but huge difference today.

Also, I like the new layout of details (time, down, distance) on the scoreboard this week. Working out the kinks...

Weird, I didn't recall hearing "You Really Got Me" yesterday during the game...

I'm sorry, I'll show myself out.

As someone who studied audio engineering in college, I would agree. However, they should DEFINITELY work on the referee's wireless mic feedback. The quality is trash.

So far I’m not impressed either. I guess my biggest bitch is turn the music down when the announcer is talking. He’s sometimes impossible to understand when the background music is blaring.

I agree, but that’s not an indictment on the sound system. The person with the aux cord owns that one.

Sound system is a HUGE improvement. It’s a night and day difference from the previous system.

That said, it feels like we have a new person doing the music/volume controls this year. Weird filler music, not turning it down when referee is speaking. Ear splitting feedback with. The officials wireless mic.

The high pitched sounds and music are terrible. The system is great, but I think they need to adjust the volume during shrill music or sound effects. I would think they have the equipment to modulate what comes out of the speakers.

Blaring music just as the cats are lining up on offense is also really poor form. Happened multiple times yesterday...

Right. Seems like we have a new person up there in the booth. They’ll get it dialed in.

I think I've mentioned this in other threads, but the in the past, MSU students from both the marketing and the film & photography schools have run the board. Bethany Cordell used to oversee the gameday production when she was with MSU. Not sure who is overseeing it this year. So technically, we have new people in the booth run the video and sound every year.

I think everything about the new scoreboard and sound system is AWESOME!!! Not sure what all the complaining is about?

There's always room for improvement even when they're starting with an amazing product. For example, I thought that the format they used to display score and game information on Saturday was substantially better than the format used for the Maine game. I'd still love to see them also find a way to display the yardage totals in a way that they don't distract from the more important information of score, time, down, yardage. Hopefully MSU is open to constructive feedback from what fans think and will make adjustments accordingly if needed.

In my limited listening to the game it was nice being able to easily hear the officials calling infractions.

I think the new board and sound is awesome, I know nothing about audio and am probably tone deaf, so I don't care what music is played. but lets figure out what is wrong with the refs mic and why we cant hear the ref.

Also thought the side layout for scoreboard was an improvement, now put something in the wasted space on the other side of the video.

Nearly all new students doing production each year but athletics is definitely reading threads like these and taking feedback from lots of different sources, making tweaks for each game. I also know they've got plans to display more stats on the board in the "wasted space" on the right side of the board... there are always kinks to work through with brand new equipment.

I did like the fact that they showed replays on the calls that went under review. Improvement from past years.

Yeah we need team stats back.
