Breaking in a new QB against Oregon and South Dakota State the first 2 games next year is going to be rough. Hopefully we can get these guys more playing time this season.

Our boys will be lucky to split those games and go 1-1

Oregon is almost a guaranteed loss even if MSU plays great, but I suppose the good news with the SDSU game is that they'll also be breaking in a new QB. I'm sure we'll see plenty of time for the backups here in the next few weeks especially against Mercyhurst and UNC, although I suspect Idaho State is good enough to keep that game competitive and keep the starters in throughout.

The good news is Daly’s D and the running backs take a ton of pressure off of the QB.

My only real disappointment, other than the offensive and defensive back-ups in the second half, was that the Cats sold out the Rodeo team run out to a sponsor and included their flag with an 8th horse and rider. Okay, I get it, more money for the program, but I don’t have to like it.
We will have to add that 8th corporate sponsored flag to next years Gold Rush tee-shirt.

As of now, I don’t think either backup will be starting those games. That doesn’t mean they both can’t make huge leaps and get there, but today wasn’t a good half of QB play by either of those guys on the field.

Vigen's press conference here is not just coach-speak. Some actually revealing comments about some disappointments re: depth and a possibility of maybe some switches in place further down the depth chart.

Definitely seemed to like Wilson's performance more than Reed's and intimated that QB2 could be up for grabs.
That's about as honest of a presser as you'll see from a coach. He wasn't as blunt when talking about the backup QBs but otherwise it sounded more like we lost the game than won. It's almost too bad the next opponent will be far worse than Maine as I expect the team to work on a lot of things over the next two weeks and the 2s/3s to come out on fire.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

I was at another game so I didn't get to watch the game live. I did record it and watch the game. a few thoughts......

There was this big hub-bub about our DL not getting sacks and people were acting like it was a hidden concern. I told you to relax and that we would be just fine. The UNM game because of the qbs running ability they weren't looking to get sacks or even apply pressure they were wanting him to stay in the pocket and not give him running lanes. Against UTech we got pressure but we just didn't get sacks. This game UM's qb was literally running for his life. Kudos to the DL and their play

We tackled much better as a whole. I love how we are flowing to the ball and bottling it up. It took us a bit but we are starting to figure out how to run hard to the ball but maintain our leverage as we are doing it. We also are learning that by having everyone run to the ball you can be more aggressive on your tackling because you have help. They are beginning to trust each other and learn each other with this new mindset....Extremely impressed by what Daly has done so far.

Our offense looks great on the ground and through the air during this game. OL gave some picture perfect pockets, TD Tommy made some great decisions. My question is what happens when another team loads our box and makes it extremely tough to run the ball, what will our pass game look like. I have faith that we will figure that piece out but it is a question because we are so prolific on the ground.

Our 2s/3s....guys they are 2s/3s for a reason. Our 2s/3s were able to move the ball and stop the opposing teams FIRST TEAM and we are complaining because they didn't come out and look exactly like our 1s...cmon folks have a dose of reality. Our 2s actually are really good, now if you take the whole lot and say the entire first team defense if out yeah we will have a problem....but ANY team if their entire first team was out would have a problem....I saw great plays by some DL, LBs, and DBs...there are individuals that I saw on those units if the person in front of them were to get injured could step in and we would be just fine. I have no concerns about our 2s because we will not have whole sale changes rather spot changes. If we have spot changes we will be fine based off what I saw...yes they were not perfect but the more they played the better they got, we're good here.

Great win....keep grinding

Excellent breakdown. As far as the run game goes, MSU has been a run first team ever since Choate took over. The Cats do not hide that they’re a run team either. Everyone knows it. Everyone tries to stop it and very few do. I think Tommy and the passing game are effective enough that other teams really need to respect that.

Man, Vigen holds his team to a very high level of expectations, while also being very fair. Love his approach to building depth.

Why was Maine's coach so mad that he got a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty after his team got a first down on a fumbled snap?

I just want to point out that DPI on McMillan seemed like garbage from the stands. I thought it should’ve been a no call, but it was more of an OPI than anything. Not sure what it looked like on tv.

He Thought the ref should have reset the play clock. After un-piling everyone from the fumble, the clock ran down quite a bit and Maine was forced to take a timeout.

The 2nd string defense had guys in position a lot of the time, they just didn’t finish. They’ll get there.

Did Stillwell play at all? Can’t say I saw him.

Almost certain I saw with the 2’s late in the game.

Yes, Stillwell was in most of the 4th quarter. It looked to me like he was playing in the nickel position most of the time, rather than safety.

And he absolutely should have. They stopped the clock to set the ball and see if it was a first. The play clock never reset even though it was under 25 when the ball was finally set and ready for play again. The referee should have pumped the play clock once the ball was set and decision on the first down made, and he didn't. The Maine coach had every right to be heated and the referee should have recognized his mistake and eaten that flag.

Well that makes sense that he'd be mad...but not that mad.

Wanted play clock reset because they started right away and took time to unpile everyone.
