Man, the first team looks so good but the 2's and 3's leave something to be desired. Really wanted to see Reed complete some passes tonight and move the ball. Second team looks to move better with Chance Wilson. 38 in the first half, 3 in the second half.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Wilson throws on the run. One hopefully in a tighter game would be a PI and the other was also borderline, but both were on the money. The 2’s and 3’s on defense were getting in the groove and seemed to show adjustments. Good game good win. No need to blow Maine out of the water for a non-conference game, especially when we have to make a long ass trip out there next year.

Wilson has a Chance to be a pretty good qb!

2nd and 3rd stringers did not play well but finally got meaningful reps. Maine never took starters out. If you feel bad about this win, just remember it was 35-0 early in the 2nd quarter. I get practice is important but my eyes tell me Wilson is a gamer when the lights come on. I'm really hoping for a big third year move in his development in 2025. Reed...I just don't see his arm overcompensating for his lack of mobility.

Thought Maine's QB was a good player for what its worth.

Trivia Answers from the original post:

Question 1 (correctly answered by carvs12): MSU first wore their gold jerseys in 2011 against UC Davis after the Griz refused to let MSU wear them in the 2010 Cat-Griz game.
Question 2: Before this season, MSU last started the season with two straight road games in 2001, when they opened up at UAB and then won at Weber State in Week 2 to end their long losing streak that included the 0-11 2000 season. MSU was supposed to begin that season with three road games in a row, but their Week 3 game at Oregon State was cancelled after the September 11 attacks.

Wilson is only a redshirt freshman this year, correct? I definitely think he turns it up a notch when playing in meaningful competition. Not yet Tommy, however, may allow for the offense to be more in sync if Tommy does go down.

Yep. I think there's definitely an argument to be made that he could be the better option as the backup QB right now given his similar playing style to Tommy. I think Jordan Reed is a better QB right now but maybe not a better player to run the MSU offense as they want to run it.

That’s a very fair point. Also, I said it earlier, but their performance may stand out more when they are playing with the 1’s. Reed is a big guy and a big target. I’m sure he’d be happy playing with the starting offensive line for some added protection. Biggest difference between the two, Reed looked posed, but mechanical. Wilson was playing, and rightfully so, like he had nothing to lose and looked much more relaxed.

I feel like if you have two weeks to prepare for a game and know you won't have Tommy available, then Jordan is probably the guy. But if Tommy goes down hurt in a game and you need to put someone in immediately, then Chance is likely the better option. We all saw in the National Championship game a few years ago that replacing Tommy with a completely different type of QB with Tucker Rovig was not successful at all.

NAU playing Arizona tough, same Arizona that blew the doors off New Mexico. I’ll be honest, I’m glad we don’t play them. They seem to be a team that, aside from last year, always have played us down to the wire.

Obviously that game was over early in the second quarter. Really thought the 2s/3s would have played better but that’s why they’re the backups. I was very happy to see Wilson get his reps. Would not be surprised if he is the starter next season at all. I also would not be shocked if Vigen was the starter either.

The first team rushing stats for this game are absolutely absurd. Tommy, Adam, and Scottre combined for 13 carries, 239 yards, 4 TDs. That's an 18.4 yards per rush average.

My brain is broken. The Bobcats have made rushing for 350+ yards feel typical.

Medium hot take: New Mexico > Wyoming.
I think that's fair. Wyoming's offense was hot garbage. They had the ball twice on the plus side of the field and did nothing with it.

Wow, really bad loss for EWU falling to Drake in OT. Weber blew out PSU, maybe their bad season last year was an anomaly or maybe PSU just sucks and Bruce Barnum needs to join his BFF Bobby's staff already.

I agree with this statement. I found myself watching the screen A TON. Not that I wanted to, it was just more convenient at times. My seats are at the north 5 yard line and the vast majority of action seemed to be in the south end zone. Blown away by the sheer size of that thing. My “2” year old daughter couldn’t stop watching it.
