ABQ Journal Live Postgame recap

Post by Helenabobcat » Sun Aug 25, 2024 6:53 pm

Sorry if this was already posted. I just found this and am only a couple of minutes into it so I don't know if its any good, but is fun so far to get a Lobos' fan's thoughts of the game.

It’s so weird to watch or read articles from these press guys that are also fans of the teams they are covering. I know the gris have those type of guys covering their teams but I can’t remember the last time the Cats had one.

Bobcat athletics is a business to the coaches, school leadership, and players. It's time the fans treat Bobcat athletics as a business too.

Have you never read an article written by Tom?

Actually, I may have in the past but I usually just read 406 sports stuff once in a while since I have an electronic subscription to the IR. I got kind of tired of the gris bias in the news and don't read sports anymore though, just local stuff if it interests me. I don't have a subscription to Skyline since I already spend way too much money on Bobcat sports already. I know, Skyline isn't the Bobcats, but it is sports related. MSU press releases are free, so I usually read those and watch the press conference videos now.

Everyone: I certainly hope I don't sound biased. If you see anything going forward that sounds biased, please DM me.

I quit reading the sports section years ago after the "Anyone's blood boiling yet?" article from the gris beat writer (and Missoulian Sports editor) after the gris lost to the Cats in 2016. That article was posted in various papers all over Montana. Then, when I come back every once in a while and see the headline is for a gris loss, while the Bobcat victory is placed lower on the page, or a frigin Big Sky championship story for the women's basketball team is relegated to a second page paragraph, it just reminds me why I quit reading the sports news. The Missoulian actually employed an absolute creepy reporter, whose name escapes me right now, that was an admitted homer for the team. Thankfully, he was canned after a couple of seasons, but it just reinforced my view of the gris bias in the media as a whole. Not saying you have gris bias, Tom, just that I saw the bias all the time in almost every sports section, especially during the big games or tournaments. Like I wrote before, I don't read the Skyline stuff because of the cost, so I don't know what goes on there.

Not everything on Skyline is pay-walled, there are still free articles/podcasts. If I see an article written by Colter I'll read it.

Victor Flores on 406mtsports is much improved over his first year or two. I generally read his stuff even though there's not much substance there if you've already watched the games and the interviews he posts on YT.
