The play right before Jones goes for 93 yards, anyone else cringe when Tommy got horse collared and has his legs landed on? That’s the kind of thing that could change this entire season.

Offense looks pretty solid, some things to work on.

Defense gave up like 90 yards in the second half, that’s crazy. DB’s made some horrible plays though and are in my eyes the biggest area that needs fixed before we get into our conference schedule.

Thought overall this was a pretty amazing team win.

Bobcats offense on 44 rushing plays: 376 yards, 8.5 per attempt, 3 TDs, 0 turnovers

Bobcats offense on 35 passing plays: 191 yards, 5.5 per dropback, 2 TDs, 2 turnovers

Moral of the story: with this roster, run the ball until they stop you.
technically the two fumbles are runs
The play call was a pass. It doesn't make sense to group them with the running plays in a discussion about play calling

I won’t even venture into the bulk of the Gameday posts. Who in the world called for him to be fired?

I will say that defensive PI on an under thrown ball is a huge offensive bailout. The two players ideally should have seen the ball, but it’s not as easy as we think. They’re running full speed and all of a sudden the WR stops and they run into him.
Agreed, it's not as easy as we think. I was struck watching the Nevada/SMU game last night though at how well Nevada's DBs defended that type of throw, they at least made some semblance of making a play on the ball and didn't get flagged as a result even when there was some contact with the receiver...and they definitely didn't wrap their arms around the receiver's neck as MSU did on one play yesterday. Hopefully MSU can get a better pass rush against FCS opponents and we don't have to worry about too many deep balls making their way downfield!
I thought the exact same thing. Some of the pass deflections and interception by the Nevada defense was textbook. Stay close to the receiver, know where the ball is and make a play on the ball.

Our offense has to improve on pass protection. I will have to watch the game again, but if it is a passing situation, the defense will send the house and play man coverage. They get to the QB before anything can develop.

41 UNIFORM PATCH: this is slightly off topic but I recall during the spring Coach Vigen, regarding the issuance of the #41 jersey, said senior players from Montana would have a special patch on their jerseys indicating they are Montanans. When the game started I noticed Tommy Mellott had a Montana outlined patch with #41 on it, but was no longer there later in the game. Maybe it was torn-off. I did see one other player wearing one.

The really really good-
89 yard 2 minute drive without using a time out!
Leaving only 10 seconds on the clock at the end of that drive!
Tommy finishing the game without injury!
2 rushers over a hundred yards neither of which is named Tommy!

The bad-
My blood pressure and my attitude most of the game.

Good: coming back from 17 twice. Showed me some moxie yesterday. Bobcats of yesteryear would've tucked tail and rolled over.

Bad: the turnovers. Minus the two scoops and scores, the Cats walk away with this one.

Ugly: giving up a 94 yd rushing TD when ya got a team on the ropes....ouch

I liked Tyler Walkers play calling. The pass calls were relatively easy throws. In past seasons we had a tendency to throw too many low percentage deep passes, IMO.

The ugly - Many of our posts when things were not going well.

One thing is Wehr just solidified himself as a real deal NFL prospect. Played guard against FBS opponents and absolutely stood out. He will be drafted.

Good - Tommy bouncing back and making some nice passes in the 4th, Adam Jones ripping off a 93 yarder, offensive resilience!

Bad - starting in a 17 point hole, the wind!

Ugly - Stillwell not playing the ball at all, getting called for a blatant PI, and then kicking the ball when the play was dead for a personal foul.

The good:
1. Persistence. Team showed a crap-ton of character to get the win.
2. Lobo receivers dropping easy balls...
3. The O-line was as advertised - depth obvious.
4. ADAM JONES

The bad:
1. Tackling. It just has to improve.
2. Zero sacks? I don't recall much pressure at all.
3. The secondary. I may be on an island here, but they are just not a good position group right now.

The ugly:
1. The passing game. There WILL be games where the cats have to play from behind...

The passing game just went 6-9 for 81 yards on the game-winning drive and you think the passing game is ugly because there WILL be games where the Cats have to play from behind. Help me out here, because I obviously missed something.

It's the correct take...

If you think we witnessed some sort of grand improvement in the passing game - you are not paying attention. Outside of that single drive - there is no evidence the team made strides.

Not to mention the terrible defensive scheme played by the Lobos to close the game.

Give me a friggin break. Can anyone here be unbiased in anything?

I never said the passing game looked improved, but nice post arguing with yourself I guess.
Didn't the Cats just play from behind??? like 17 points behind???

Here's my take - Mellott looked terrible in the first half, it was very discouraging. But he kept battling and had a fantastic 4th quarter. AND I'll say this: If MSU gets 200 passing yards and 2 passing TDs every game from Mellott to go along with our running game, nobody will beat us. (I highly doubt we get that every game, I'm just saying, the final passing numbers ended up OK despite looking like hot garbage for much of the game).

Well, it’s guaranteed this will happen at least once this season and be a successful game-winning drive.

I don’t think our latest Gris troll even watched the game.
