Cats @ New Mexico Predictions
It's officially game week people!!!
On tap is a very winnable FBS game. We've got an opponent that hasn’t been very good in awhile. That doesn't necessarily mean they won't be good this year, but Bronco Mendenhall has his work cut out for him. As we well know by now, UNM has 60 transfers and are a very different team than last year. Their offense is fairly intact, but they have a new D. Will the lack of film on what they're going to do make this game more difficult? Maybe.
Devon Dampier is my biggest worry. He's a true dual threat guy at the QB position. Their offense has a lot of the same pieces fron last year's team, so our D should at least be able to prepare for what those guys do well, even if we don't know exactly what they'll be running. I expect a more aggressive, better tackling D from the Cats this year.
Perkins being out is going to affect our offense a bit, in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a drive or 2 stall out due to missed protection changes or bad snaps.
All that being said, I think we're the best team in the FCS this year. The best team in the FCS wins games like this.
Cats - 35
Spanish Wolves - 27

Re: Cats @ New Mexico Predictions
We should win this game. We will be the better team. If you want us to compare to NDSU, NDSU has won the last 6 or 7 FBS games they have played including 13th ranked Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas and Minnesota twice. Perkins being out is a concern. If Sain had 2 or 3 games under his belt at center it would be different. He didn't even play all of last year. I think our discipline (23 Seniors) will pay off. I think trying to get 60 new players to come together for their (UNM) first game together will be difficult.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 8:04 amIt's officially game week people!!!

The Lobos will sustain drives and score. However it takes a veteran, gap sound defense that trusts each other to have a chance to stop the Bobcat offense. UNM might have that at the end of the season but not right out of the gate.

Re: Cats @ New Mexico Predictions
Colorado had similar turnover last year and 1st game was one of best because teams started to figure out what they ran after they got film. I think their offense will have an advantage, hopefully we have enough new looks for our offense to take advantage of their Dgtapp wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 8:15 amWe should win this game. Close game, less than a TD difference either way. Hoping for 28-24 Cats.
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

I was going with Cats 43-17, but Lobos get a late score, 43-24 Cats.

I think the biggest problem will be the heat. The forecast has been in mid 90's but now it's 86. Still very hot. Need to get lots of subs in and out. I'll be sitting in the stands on my rear and I'm not sure I can make it through the entire game.

I bet it's not at hot as the 2022 Gold Rush game in Bobcat Stadium! Not that that means anything, but just sayin.84CatGrad wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 7:33 pmI think the biggest problem will be the heat. The forecast has been in mid 90's but now it's 86. Still very hot. Re: Cats @ New Mexico Predictions
They have a pretty good track record against FCS teams. Going back to 2003 they’ve only lost three times. Once was UTSA in 2013 and I’m not sure if they were still FCS then.
MSU, on the other hand, seems to find a way to lose when it plays FBS opponents. I’m not sure MSU has had this good of team when it’s played FBS teams the past 20 years and I don’t think they’ve played a FBS team this traditionally weak.
MSU 31, UNM 30

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Don't forget to make your predictions on the Lobos forum. It would be easy to take that place over.

Re: Cats @ New Mexico Predictions
I’m thinking we’re gonna have a bit of a challenge with this game. Hot temperatures, travel, unknown opponent, new coach that has been successful.
Cats win late by a FG 31 to 28. Happy first win!
