If Sain is healthy, it’s been mentioned somewhere that he’s played Center. He’s a 6-7 year guy. He was beat out of the job by JP but has played a ton of football. I think we’ll be just fine.

They have one guy who’s above average sized.catatac wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 3:37 pmThanks. Massive OL, out DL will have a good challenge. I never put much stock into just looking at how big the OL players are, and generally I think out DL holds their own against almost everyone they go up against. The MICKSTER wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 11:52 amDon't know how accurate it is..... https://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-d ... xico/91349

Re: UNM early thoughts
I agree that FS1 dictated the start time. It will be competing for casual CFB fan eyeballs against just McNeese @ Tarleton, airing at 1:30 on ESPN. In the 10am-1pm window, casual fans will opt for the FSU-Georgia Tech game on ESPN as the only P5 game that weekend. The Cricket MEAC/SWAC Challenge will suck all the air out of the room from 5pm-8pm, hence why it has a sponsor and is the only game of the weekend airing on a major broadcast channel (ABC). I suppose they could have gone for an 8pm start time, but the entire east coast would skip watching MSU@NM if the game started at 10pm EST.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 2:34 pmIts on FS1. I'm guessing there are TV (MLB or Nascar) considerations.

Probably depends on what we mean by average size, lol. Here are the weights for the starting 5:BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 4:29 pmThey have one guy who’s above average sized.catatac wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 3:37 pmThanks. 315, 332, 315, 303, 310
behind them it's 337, 310, 333, 302, 295.
Obviously they put a premium on some pretty heavy dudes.
As I said, not really worried about how big they are... those are bigger than a lot of NFL lines.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Their entire starting OL and most (all?) of the DL are transfers so not only are they all operating under new coaches but none of them have played together. I don't think we'll have a problem going against either group.catatac wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 3:37 pmThanks. Massive OL, out DL will have a good challenge. Interesting that all their starting skill position players are returning players. Based on how the team performed over the last couple years that doesn't seem like much of a threat either.
We should be able to handle some bad snaps against this group. Just have to avoid any additional injuries leading up to, and in, the game.
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Average NFL OL is roughly 6’4 315 and rather rapidly increasing. They are not bigger than a lot of NFL lines.catatac wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 6:10 pmProbably depends on what we mean by average size, lol. It’s not often in college that you see offensive lineman that weigh less than 300. More common at the FCS level, but certainly not the FBS.

Re: UNM early thoughts
NFL players haven't been getting much bigger, if at all, for the past 20 years or so. If anything, teams are getting a little smaller at select positions, but more athletic across the board. It's better to have a guy at 315 who can move and mirror a to stay in front of a pass rusher than a guy at 350 who can't.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 6:30 pmAverage NFL OL is roughly 6’4 315 and rather rapidly increasing. Re: UNM early thoughts
Howdy Bobcat fans. We are really looking forward to the game, and looking forward to meeting some MSU fans in the tailgating area of the stadium.
And yes, it’s true, we are a mishmash of portal players from all over the place, and so are our coaches. You will learn about what Mendenhall plans to run, at the same time UNM fans are. I’m thinking we’ll run some kind of RPO offense, as our QB Devin Dampier is a pretty good dual threat QB. We’re lucky to have guys that have player together before, on the offensive side of the ball. We are thinking we have a pretty good group of running backs as well, so really curious to see how Bronco puts the pieces together, against a quality opponent, right off the bat. We’re thinking on defense, we’ll see a 3-4 or 4-3 type defense, with some kind of hybrid 3-3-5 stunting on big 3rd down plays. Should see lots of movement in that configuration to try to confuse your O-line.
SUN BLOCK - HEAD COVER & COOLING TOWELS - HYDRATE! Safe travels to all that are coming down for the game!
And yes, TV (FOX1/CBSSN), dictates when we play, and trust me, Lobos fans are not looking forward to baking in the sun either! Won’t be a lot shape in the stadium come game time, but the west stands will see some later. For your fans and ours sitting in the north end zone and the east side stands, it’s gonna be all sunshine, all the time… come prepared for a dry heat!
Yes, we only have 5 home games. Since the athletic department is strapped for cash, we always schedule “body bag games” every year, but this year, we have two on the schedule, at Arizona and at Auburn. Gonna be a ruff first season for Bronco’s team, and we’ll be using some of the same terms we’ve been using around here for years… at least be competitive, and show some improvement. Terms I’m sure that are seldom heard about your program. And we are hoping for an injury free game, for both teams.
You guys have every right to be pretty confident about this game, should consider it a win. We just hope we’ll be competitive!

I was on your board yesterday. Made an account. Only to see some idoit gris fan highjacking the threads. Really really odd to me that a gris fan would troll their rivals opening weekend team. I cant even wrap my mind around that sort of obsession with someone elses team.Loboman 59 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 9:13 pmHowdy Bobcat fans. Well sadly you only have to go as far as egriz to see it. There are a handful of Cat fans over there who muck up their board pretty good.

I didn't create an account over there. What is the general feeling from their fans regarding this game?

Re: UNM early thoughts
College Football News says Cats -8.5, o/u 53.5. Game is in Albuquerque. First game for each. Bronco Mendenhall v Brent Vigan, no match, Bronco all the way. Lobos have replaced 60 players, due to graduation, transfers, or just getting rid of non-performers. Makes him like Deion last year in Boulder. That didn't work out so well, did it? Cats have the edge in experienced players and continuity. Lobos are a mystery. CFN says UNM 27, MSU 26. Seems rationally based(read it). Will be interesting to watch.

What kind of game do we want?
IMHO I think a close win is the best outcome. It will be important to be challenged but come out on top. It will help our confidence while testing our toughness.
A big win (2 TD's or more) would be fun but might lead to apathy.
A close loss is tolerable because we are on the road at an FBS team.
A big loss sucks and I believe signifies a very long season.

Re: UNM early thoughts
This has been discussed many other years. An FBS win or loss really doesnt mean jack for an FCS team outside of NDSU. Weber beat Utah State, missoula beat Washington, both of those Big Sky teams werent that good. The season is long. A win helps us in seeding. A loss has no impact to seeding.Long Time Cat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 12:56 pmWhat kind of game do we want?
