Is this the game that was played in Great Falls?AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:40 pmI saw this today and it kind of surprised me. We make fun of the Potato Bowl, but did you know MSU won a Potato Bowl back in 1976? MSU beat UND 18-14 in this game to win the 11th annual Potato Bowl. Now, why is that championship Potato Bowl banner not hanging on the Brick?![]()

Nope, Grand Forks, North Dakota.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:46 pmIs this the game that was played in Great Falls?AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:40 pmI saw this today and it kind of surprised me. I agree, should be listed along with Conference and National Championship too, at the very least on letter head.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:40 pmI saw this today and it kind of surprised me. This game was played on September 11. Now we think of bowl games as post-season games, but I think they used to have names for certain games. Still do in some cases but most don't have "Bowl" in the name anymore. Egg Bowl and Iron Bowl come to mind. So I don't think a Week 2 game probably needs to be on the letterhead.RICO CAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 1:46 pmI agree, should be listed along with Conference and National Championship too, at the very least on letter head.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:40 pmI saw this today and it kind of surprised me. 1947 Harbor Bowl, San Diego, CA.
1956 Aluminum Bowl, Little Rock, AK.
1976 Pioneer Bowl, Wichita Falls, TX.
I wrote it as a joke since it wasn’t a championship game of any type. Cats did also win the Grantland Rice bowl in 1976. That was the name of the Div 2 semi final game back then. So, the Cats won three bowl games in one year! How often has that happened?RICO CAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 1:46 pmI agree, should be listed along with Conference and National Championship too, at the very least on letter head.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:40 pmI saw this today and it kind of surprised me. Each player on the winning team was awarded a 10-pound bag of potatoes. The assistant coaches got 2 bags and the head coach got 5 bags and a bottle of vodka made from potatoes. If any players from that team are on here feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Each member of the losing team got a potato peeler.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:40 pmI saw this today and it kind of surprised me. Really unfortunate for the competitors. Its one thing to battle some elements in T&F, but its a whole different deal in extreme weather.
It's just the Multi's today. Maybe they can move some of that into the Brick. Like the shot, high jump, pole vault.
I think they could move the PV and HJ inside, but I don't think they could move the shot. They have to throw an indoor shot inside, and it's a different size and feel. But that's an easy enough event to compete outside in. Last year's meet was in a driving rain storm and I watched throwers splashing around in standing water. It's track though, they just deal with it. Pole Vault is the only one I think that needs to go inside if it's still raining or windy. If they can get things dry it should be fine.WalkOn79 wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 2:11 pmIt's just the Multi's today. Maybe they can move some of that into the Brick. Yeah tough to say. I'm watching in my office and the men are long jumping in the snow. I just saw an Idaho kid grab at his hamstring in the middle of an attempt. Didn't look good. Hard to get your muscles warm in this weather. MSU has Nico Paletti (sp?) who should be in the mix. Not sure who NAU has.Montanabob wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 2:35 pmsoooookennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 2:24 pmI think they could move the PV and HJ inside, but I don't think they could move the shot. does this help us or hurt our chances against NAU?
And nationals? i assume it kills our chances for some events.
Very cool. I'm not seeing the photo in that article...maybe I'm dumber than I thought. Did it say what year this was?AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 10:05 amThis photo showed up in Bozeman magazine today. Not sure why they used it but the photo show's part of the old Gatton field. Kind of a cool image, except the Cats are down 14-0.
Nice article too.

I know of another picture of the Gatton Field parking lot being paved, and Roskie is in the background. Roskie was built in 1966, and Gatton Field was last used for the 1972 season if I'm not mistaken. MSU didn't lose much at Gatton Field back in the 60's, but Texas A&M came to town in 1968 when Mercury Morris played there and beat the Cats 35-20. Wonder if maybe that's the game?AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 11:09 amI haven't looked up the year yet. West Texas A&M, not the big Texas A&M. Morris had 340 yards rushing on 35 carries, setting the NCAA record. OUCH! That picture could be from that game since they were up 14-0 in the first and 21-0 at the half.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 11:46 amI know of another picture of the Gatton Field parking lot being paved, and Roskie is in the background.
