Anyone hear if Rollins will be in Bozeman soon. Someone said he’s done with his mission in May.

Really curious to see how he fits in next year. Like is he ready to go, need a year to get back in shape, pushing for a starting spot immediately, etc…. Such a huge addition!

Would be interesting to see what a few months in Herrin’s program would do. If he’s here in May I’d think a couple months might not be enough time to get ready for preseason camp which starts a little early this year since the first game is in late August. ???mslacatfan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 3:41 pmReally curious to see how he fits in next year. I would be surprised if he is playing much before mid to late season. New system, long absence from playing, back in college, deep roster, etc.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 4:05 pmWould be interesting to see what a few months in Herrin’s program would do. Re: Dylan Rollins commits…
You're probably right...but maybe it's the optimist in me that says (hopes) he has been somewhat staying on top of his workouts. The amount of development and maturity that just naturally happens between 18 and 20 in most young men is crazy. If he hasn't lifted a weight in 2 years, yeah it's going to be a while. If he's been able to lift and he just needs to get his stamina up, I think he can get it up enough to be a rotational player by late August. If he's not good enough to play this season, that's probably a good sign that our guys are really good and they've stayed healthy.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 5:18 pmI would be surprised if he is playing much before mid to late season. I’m going to go ahead and call this one now. Rollins will be on the two deep first game of the season. By 4th game of the season, he will be moved into a starting position.

Re: Dylan Rollins commits…
Returning from missions can be difficult for many guys - they are not supposed to be focused at all on working out - depending on the mission president directives where they are.
When I lived in SLC (15 years) and knew some coaches - including strength coach - and heard various stories about returned missionaries. Generally, it takes 3-6 months to get into Utah/BYU playing condition - mass, speed, strength, etc. But some guys would work out before or after their defined, rigorous mission schedule - like 3AM body resistance work for example. Most come back not in playing shape at all, but they're young and resilient and get in shape quick.
BYU has 14 returning missionaries joining the team - but 6 will grey shirt. I think they're all freshmen or RFR
Utah has 4 returning missionaries - all of them have seen playing time before going on their missions, and 2 are upper classmen, one played 3 years at Utah before going on his mission and should have 2 years eligibility left.

The O Line has been playing lights out and not suggesting that we change anything up , but has anyone heard anything on Dylan? Curious if we are going to see him this year. I know he has been away from the game for awhile, but anyone that had that level of FBS interest peaks my interest when he gets his shot.

Re: Dylan Rollins commits…
Dylan has played in every game so far this year. He's on the place-kicking units and also is a guard for the "2nd team" offensive line which has actually played a lot of football this year. That 2nd unit includes:cat22[2010] wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 5:59 amThe O Line has been playing lights out and not suggesting that we change anything up , but has anyone heard anything on Dylan? LT - Cedric Jefferson
LG - Tommy Nilson
C - Zac Nyland
RG - Dylan Rollins
RT - Everett Carr
Samora Ezekial (Tackle), Jonathan Luhmann (Guard), Aiden Kaplan (Center), and Jaden Perkins (Guard) have also seen time on that unit. In total we have played 15 offensive lineman this year and Justus Perkins hasn't played a snap.

In your defense, its really hard to know who is out there once 2s and 3s start rotating in. I had no realized Dylan had played in every game either. But, I did look him up on the program a couple times.cat22[2010] wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 10:41 amThanks! #63 will most likely be one of our starting guards next year as we graduate Marcus, Cole, JT, and Justus. I also assume Conner will get NIL opportunities so he'll have a decision to make. My projected starters for next years OL:CodyCat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 10:49 amIn your defense, its really hard to know who is out there once 2s and 3s start rotating in. Samora Ezekial (Tackle), Jonathan Luhmann (Guard), Aiden Kaplan (Center), and Jaden Perkins (Guard) have also seen time on that unit. In total we have played 15 offensive lineman this year and Justus Perkins hasn't played a snap.
LT - Cedric Jefferson (played well in his first few starts this year and is a natural at the pivot)
LG - Burke Mastel (already a co-starter with JT Reed at the position)
C - Zac Nyland or Aiden Kaplan (this one is 100% up for grabs and others may compete for this spot as well...Aiden is an up-and-comer though)
RG - Dylan Rollins (this spot will receive heavy competition but I think Dylan wins the job)
RT - Titan Fleischmann (has been so great watching him play at a high level and staying healthy...may get All-Conference this year)
Others that will factor in include Everett Carr (tackle/guard), Samora Ezekiel (tackle/guard), Tommy Nilson (guard), Jaden Perkins (guard/center), Jonathan Luhmann (tackle/guard), Dalton Noble (tackle/guard), and Braden Zimmer (tackle...he'll need to keep adding weight).
We also have Vaughn Wirkus (tackle), Ben Winters (anywhere), Nicholas Maloff (tackle/guard), and Nathaniel Thornton (tackle/guard) already committed for the 2025 class and those four are all incredibly gifted. Our OL has definitely reached a point of "reload" not "rebuild".
