Re: Tyler Walker New OC
I thought for sure it would be Udy named OC out of all internal possibilities…

Congrats to Coach Walker! Excited to see what he can do. Will admit I do not know much about the coach, but trust in Vigens decision making. This decision was announced quickly, makes you wonder what was already in motion with Housewright?
Already excited for football season!

I have to admit I don't know much about him.
Experience? Qualified?
I was hoping for a proven commodity but I hope they have confidence in this move

I LOVE the way we use our tight ends and this can only maintain or expand that role.

MSU doesn't exactly have a good track record of hiring "proven commodities" for its coordinator positions. Vigen has been working with Walker for three years, I trust his judgment and ability to evaluate Coach Walker's qualifications and provide mentorship as a longtime OC himself.

Re: Tyler Walker New OC
I have a large amount of comfort with this hire. Vigen has seen Walker work for several years now, and knows and likes how he works with THIS set of players. That’s more important than working with someone previously elsewhere and plugging them into a new set of players (it obviously can work too). Housewright wasn’t the only reason this offense has been successful. These other coaches have a lot to do with it too.

Re: Tyler Walker New OC
I hope I am way off, but to me this seems like the kind of hire an Idaho State or Northern Colorado would do. We are a top 5 FCS team. We could easily be back in the Semifinals next season. I hope Walker is the real deal and that it feels odd because we know so little about him, but I guess I was expecting someone that has proven they are legit.

It’s also the sort of hire ndsu would make.GoCats18 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 10:30 pmI hope I am way off, but to me this seems like the kind of hire an Idaho State or Northern Colorado would do. Not sure what I was hoping for, but this is really not it. Just thinking where the program is at we could attract someone with some experience. I don’t know anything about Tyler I hope this works, I hate being in the wait and see mode!!!

It's reasonable and was probably planned for awhile. Congrats to Coach Walker! Excited to see what he can do with this outstanding group of offensive players. GO CATS!!

Re: Tyler Walker New OC
For those wanting a proven commodity. What is your criteria for that? Previous OC? A certain level?

Re: Tyler Walker New OC
Yeah, a proven OC at this level is probably looking at FBS for the next job. That leaves D2 or NAIA which may be an ok way to go but you have to consider that levels limited recruiting footprint.

Re: Tyler Walker New OC
I’ve heard that the kids love him. Vigen has seen his work ethic for three years. I’m good with that.
And dipstick #2 is gone. I’d call that a good day!
