Agree with all of the above. Ideally I'd like to see x2 starter quality LB's...probably asking too much.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 11:59 amIn order of priority:
1) K (holy hell please get a true kicker)
2) LB (need a starter quality to push the rotation)
3) DT (I like what we have coming back with Schmidt, Brott, and Black but then its a lot of young guys who will be good in 2025...but maybe not 2024)
4) S/N (I like our starters in Ortt and Polidore but Stillwell shouldn't be our 3rd option or at least needs to be pushed; we also need more nickel depth as Dowler continues to recover; find a combo player)
5) QB (sounds odd but if they want a power running QB, they're out there; I'd even take a guy like NDSU has; not looking for a thrower)
6) CB (I think we have the pieces to be deep and competitive but another Jon Johnson type added to the mix wouldn't hurt)
RB, TE, WR, OL, and DE are all good in my book.

I noticed Henry Sellards has not yet submitted his NLI to NDSU... Any update on that front? Here's to hoping we can flip him!

3) I think Sharbono will push for time. He was already getting close before the injury this summer. Time will tell.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 11:59 amIn order of priority:

Good list. I think I see LB as an absolute priority. Also, I think we need another transfer QB in the same mold as Chambers. Tommy is awesome, but let's face it - hasn't played a full season without getting hurt. And with how our offense operates and his history, I'm not sure we can rely on him for 12+ games. And is Reed ready? Maybe, but it's gonna take some off-season reps.LTown Cat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 12:01 pmAgree with all of the above. I really hope Kautzman works his butt off and turns the corner kicking for us. We certainly need a K to provide competition but I hope Casey has a strong year next year.

I'm rooting for Casey. He was put in a tough position this season, as I think the coaches were hoping he would have a year or two to develop. I still think he could develop into a good one.

So the portal is open until January 2nd. That means we have a couple more weeks then to go out and sign for a few more guys? How many scholarships would we have available for some transfers?

I am too. I think he knows how to kick, just needs a little coaching from a specialist, which will never be on the MSU staff. I might be totally wrong, but kicking seems like something that lots of people know how to do, but it takes something special between the ears to be able to pull it off in crunch time. Plenty of guys can make free throws in practice, but with the game on the line can they hit them? I can hit great drives on the range, but when I have to have one that's when the shanks come out. Don't have to have a guy who can bomb them from 55, but if you have a guy who can hit them under 45 consistently and at important times in the game you're in pretty good shape.

Re: National Signing Day - Wednesday.
Vigen alluded to this during press conferences but he was very frustrated this year due to the fact Brendan Hall was nearly perfect during practice but then fell apart during games as a place kicker. The feeling was Kautzman didn't have the leg but possibly a better confidence with his game and that proved incorrect as well. It's not as easy as some fans make it out to be. The whole fanbase can be riding on your shoulders prior to a game winning kick. That's a lot for one kid to take sometimes.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 12:33 pmI am too. Hall *never* looked good out there as a PK to my eyes. Wasn't just the yips.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 12:46 pmVigen alluded to this during press conferences but he was very frustrated this year due to the fact Brendan Hall was nearly perfect during practice but then fell apart during games as a place kicker. And that's not an aspersion against the young man. He was a terrific weapon on punts and kickoffs and I'm delighted he'll be back next year.
