Another huge benefit is that you can give the ball to Mellott already running full speed on a fly sweep. Pretty hard for the D to keep contain on him on those plays as long as your outside blocking holds up. It maximizes Tommy's speed as well as gets him away from the middle of the field where the 250lb+ guys roam.tdub wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:52 amAgree with this. It’s one reason why you rarely should ever see both QB’s on the field. A: Injury risk (since this is an injury update thread). B: only real benefit is have 2 guys that can throw, which mean long developing plays which are not typically good. There’s other guys that do everything else better (like block)BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:37 amYeah, nothing like putting your QB at a position where he can get hammered by a defensive lineman or LB.

Re: Injury updates
I believe Tommy scored on a play in last years Cat/gris game on a fly sweep handoff from Sean.91catAlum wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 9:19 amAnother huge benefit is that you can give the ball to Mellott already running full speed on a fly sweep. Re: Injury updates
It’s different when you’re a ball carrier vs on the line of scrimmage. And you better believe a QB that’s on the LOS is going to get targeted by the defense. It’s begging for a shoulder injury.catscat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 9:08 amSeems to me that Chambers can be hammered by a defensive lineman or LB every time he runs the ball. But, if that's a concern, he could line up at TE and motion him into the backfield to run or throw the ball. On the other hand, he's big enough that he might just be the one doing the hammering.tdub wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 8:52 amAgree with this. I’m fine with using Tommy on a sweep like that. Lining a QB up at TE on the LOS? That’s not a good idea.91catAlum wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 9:19 amAnother huge benefit is that you can give the ball to Mellott already running full speed on a fly sweep. Yeah, let's not put Sean on the line, he's big but not that big.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 11:54 amI’m fine with using Tommy on a sweep like that. Lining a QB up at TE on the LOS? Re: Injury updates
If he was injured, then why would he be in a lost game with 5 minutes left in the 4th?catatac wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 5:13 pmI didn't see that, but I'm guessing it's nothing serious. I watched the replay today and after the game when he walked out to do hand shakes, it didn't look like he was limping to me, maybe barely? Also, does anyone know why Julius only got five carries? Coaches just wanting to limit him and spread to other ball carriers? Just making sure he didn't get dinged up.

Re: Injury updates
No new injuries but even though Polidore and Pickering were available I only saw Pickering on the field, and it appeared that was only on to block as Provience was running routes that I assume Pickering would normally run.
Polidore wasn't wearing a club during warmups, so I assumed he was full strength but in hindsight I guess that was because they didn't plan on using him unless there was an emergency. MSU's pass defense has struggled in the second half after injuries to Price, Jr., Polidore and Woodard piled up. Throw Uluilakepa into that mix as well.
In the first 7 games MSU was allowing a 112.6 passer rating and 55.3% completion percentage (no games over 60%). Very good.
In the last 4 games MSU has allowed a 155.8 passer rating and 73.5 completion percentage (all games over 70%). Not good.
MSU - 17 team National Champions (most recent 2025); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Might be injury related or teams getting enough film to adjust and attack our schemesTomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 5:22 pmNo new injuries but even though Polidore and Pickering were available I only saw Pickering on the field, and it appeared that was only on to block as Provience was running routes that I assume Pickering would normally run.

Re: Injury updates
Does anybody have any injury updates, i.e. if anything new coming out of Cat Griz, and who all we expect to be healthy for the first playoff game? Specifically I was wondering if any truth to someone saying Sean was dinged up. Any chance we get Snell back? Pickering and Polidore looked pretty limited...

Ha. I was wondering the same thing.
I just hope Tommy can recover. That could be an injury that takes a long time

And why did Jared White not see any action at all until the last drive of the game? Humphrey is a great player but that's a big headscratcher.

Re: Injury updates
A ton of horrible luck with injuries this season.
Unfortunately we lost high quality players that masked questionable play calling and it caught up with the Cats their last two games of the season.
