...and they wonder why the rest of the country views them as arrogant and condescending and when they're asked by someone from the major schools why they don't play at that level, they're quick with the response something to the effect: "Well, we're only 1-AA and part of the Big Sky so we can't afford it
" Really got embarrassing being lumped with them when I lived and worked all over the rest of the country simply because I was from Montana. Oh well. And they call us delusional at times.

Yeah, that must have been really embarassing for you, you poor thing.Cat Grad wrote:...and they wonder why the rest of the country views them as arrogant and condescending and when they're asked by someone from the major schools why they don't play at that level, they're quick with the response something to the effect: "Well, we're only 1-AA and part of the Big Sky so we can't afford it" Really got embarrassing being lumped with them when I lived and worked all over the rest of the country simply because I was from Montana. I don't know where you've lived (aside from GA), but if you've only lived in places where a large percentage of the population actually knew enough about UM to have an opinion about us, then you can't be as worldly as your statement about "the rest of the country" would imply. Outside Montana, I've never lived anyplace where anyone knew enough about UM to call us "arrogant."

I've worked with a few Hofstra grads, none of whom has ever had a bad word to say about Griz fans. (The Hofstra fans were pissed that UM cancelled its game at Hofstra last year, but that's another matter -- I've never heard a bad word about our fans.) My firm just hired a newly-minted tax attorney from Hofstra who starts work on Wednesday, and I'm supposed to take him to lunch, so I suppose I could ask him what he knows about UM, just as a social experiment...I sort of doubt it will change the results of our little debate, though.Cat Grad wrote:How many Hofstra folks have ya'll been lucky enough to work with?
I have also worked with / known fans of Furman, James Madison, Delaware, App. State, Maine...and I know there are others, but these are just offhand. The vast majority of the I-AA fans that I've met, in all honesty, have no knowledge/opinion of Griz fans, but those that do (the Furman and JMU fans who went to Chatty) have only had good things to say.
Not that any of this matters really. Anecdotal evidence...you know. I just don't think Griz fans are quite as notorious around "the whole rest of the country" as you make us out to be.

I certainly hope those messages get printed and posted in the locker room of every UM opponent this year. And the Griz wonder why so many of us can't stand to cheer for them. Ahhh... the smell of sweet arrogance is in the air.
Football is not a game but a religion, a metaphysical island of fundamental truth in a highly verbalized, disguised society, a throwback of 30,000 generations of anthropological time. ~Arnold Mandell

For the reading (or numerically impaired), the first post was on 07/01/06, aka July 1, 2006.GrizinWashington wrote:I seriously doubt that any coach anywhere cares about what some fan posts on a website. In May.

I think Grizin was just making a statment of fact -- he wasn't suggesting that these posts were made "in May"; rather, he was just pointing out that, generally, coaches probably don't care what fans post on message boards in May.GOKATS wrote:For the reading (or numerically impaired), the first post was on 07/01/06, aka July 1, 2006.GrizinWashington wrote:I seriously doubt that any coach anywhere cares about what some fan posts on a website.
