If you're comparing the run game this season against last season, and you want to bring up SDSU, this year it was literally four times better against SDSU than last season. If you want to say the overall offensive game plan wasn't great against SDSU, fine. No argument there. But I've seen nothing that suggests this run game isn't AT LEAST as good as last season. Don't forget last season, toward the end, the Cats got to play a terrible Cal Poly team and a gris team that didn't want to be on the field. Hopefully after watching the Weber game you're changed your tune though.4thecats wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 3:55 pmI can see holding your cards to your chest vs 2 crappy teams, but why would you do that vs SDSU. Why would we not bring it all vs the #1 team in the nation?
We may be #1 in the nation in rushing, but it just doesn't seem like we are as fluid and effective as last year

How clever of you to catch that. You have the makings of a useful servant to Vigo, Lord of the Carpathians.

Why were we suddenly under center against Weber? What advantage is that over the shotgun????

I was listening in on the radio feed, and I believe it was RJ who said that Sean while playing the Shotgun comfortably was under center at Wyoming. His level of comfort while being under center conceals the RPO better than the pistol and allows for bootlegs etc. Additionally the communication factor at the LOS is increased a bit because he’s right there at the line barking out cadence. Seemed to work.

One advantage is that lining up under center makes it easier to sell a play-action fake, as the QB can turn his back to the line of scrimmage and hide the ball much more effectively than he can from the shotgun. MSU's two pass TDs were the exact same play run from under center but to opposite sides of the field, and Weber completely bit on the fake both times leaving Pickering wide open.

Yep, it was a great wrinkle. For as much as I disliked the extremely conservative plan against SDSU, I loved the utter changeup against Weber.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 9:08 pmOne advantage is that lining up under center makes it easier to sell a play-action fake, as the QB can turn his back to the line of scrimmage and hide the ball much more effectively than he can from the shotgun. Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

I kept begging for the coaches to put Sean right under center in the SDSU game. He just looks more comfortable under center versus in the shotgun, and it may have eliminated some of the false starts in that game.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 8:08 amYep, it was a great wrinkle.
