Re: Ferris vs gris
I was listening to the pregame and they had the announcers pick the scores. One said like 66-9 and the other said 51-17. They said it might be close in the beginning but the oline would start pushing these guys around.

Wondering if they have seen the new poll where they are kicked to #21?

2008 they talked a lot about how good Central Washington was.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 8:48 amI think the gris lose this game by 10 on a neutral field. I hate to give them credit, but the fans were the difference in this game.
They can say all they want just how good Ferris State is, but isn't this year five (six if you count their mini Covid season) of RTD? Can you imagine that fan base 20-25 years ago trying to tell everybody how good a D-II team is?
Also 2003 NDSU was pretty good too.

Really? Those are some dumb announcers. Anybody that follows college football at all would know that Ferris State actually is a pretty good team. They're bigger and arguably better on both lines, and they've went WAY more players to the NFL than the Griz lately.

I heard the griz are way banged up on the DL, to the point where they had to plug in a TE during the Ferris game. Any truth to that, and if so, how serious are the injuries if anyone knows? There's a way to derail a season. If they're really that thin, and they lose Gubner (I actually think this guy is an animal, comparable to SeaBass), go ahead an put a fork in em. They're a 6th place Big Sky team when fully healthy. Take a away the DL and they might not finish in the top half of the Big Sky, miss the playoffs, etc.

Yes, it’s true. As usual no one knows how serious the injuries are.catatac wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 8:58 pmI heard the griz are way banged up on the DL, to the point where they had to plug in a TE during the Ferris game. As much as injuries can't be blamed on the coach, do you think griz nation will tolerate a losing season? Will Bobby be shown the door?catatac wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 8:58 pmI heard the griz are way banged up on the DL, to the point where they had to plug in a TE during the Ferris game. Injuries are a part of football, a season is a game of attrition to a certain extent. That is why coaches build depth, every team is going to lose some players, you don't know which ones, for how long or how many, but you will lose players throughout the year. Good teams have depth and are able to mitigate the losses due to injury.nanacat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 12:28 pmAs much as injuries can't be blamed on the coach, do you think griz nation will tolerate a losing season? Re: Ferris vs gris
They won't have a losing season, they have 7 easy games this year and 4 tougher games, so 7-4 is worst-case scenario for them. But if they do finish 7-4 or even 8-3 with a loss to the Cats and early playoff exit, Bobby will at least be on the hot seat.nanacat wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 12:28 pmAs much as injuries can't be blamed on the coach, do you think griz nation will tolerate a losing season? Re: Ferris vs gris
Yes, and I fully agree. However, multiple injuries at a position group can derail a season for even the deepest teams. This was why I was asking about the Griz DL. If it's true they are plugging in a TE on the DL three games into the season, they might be in trouble. We are very good and pretty deep on the DL (VIM put my mind at ease there earlier this Fall!). However, if we were to lose Seabass, Brott, Schmidt (God forbid)..... suddenly we're in a dire situation and I doubt we're competing with SDSU and NDSU.cats2506 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 2:32 pmInjuries are a part of football, a season is a game of attrition to a certain extent. Re: Ferris vs gris
If they finish 7-4 (losing to Davis, Idaho, Sac, MSU) their best counting win would likely be NAU or UTU (both which would be road wins). After getting into the playoffs last year on heels of their 2001 championship, would they be able to rely on their name again with that record? I guess it just depends on how greedy the NCAA is. This might be Bobbi's second to last year if they miss the playoffs (one last chance next year to make the playoffs and make a run).91catAlum wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 2:48 pmThey won't have a losing season, they have 7 easy games this year and 4 tougher games, so 7-4 is worst-case scenario for them. He’s easy to dislike, so there’s that, but I think what we’ve seen these last few years is as good as it gets with him.
A good, not great team. Winning record, playoff record of 1-1 each year, might beat the Cats one out of every 4 or 5 tries. Give me that all day long.
If they go a different direction there is a chance they get worse, but there is an equal chance they get better and are an actual threat. And if there is one thing I don’t want to see any time soon is a griz fanbase that can start to legitimately brag about winning the conference and competing for and/or winning national championships again.

I think their defense will improve with staff he has now. Offense remains to be seen.

Exactly. It wouldn't even take a homerun type hire for them to get back to where they were 2 decades ago. The coach there has every advantage over pretty much all of the FCS save a few programs. Bobby is an ok coach but has some serious lack of perspective or self awareness. They are kind of in the same position the Cats were under Ash. Coach with a long history of winning but not good enough to be among Natty contenders. I know there was a large portion of boosters that were very unhappy when Rob was fired and I'm sure Bobby has that same booster support.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2023 1:34 pmI hope not. This is a good analogy and I don’t think UM has the AD with the guts to fire him and so I think he’s there until he quits..Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 10:32 amExactly.
