Not only does this suck for MSU, but it puts this young man in a crappy situation of not being to play this year. I can't believe these types of things can't be resolved before the start of the season, no less three games in. What are his options now? Sit out a year and lose eligibility? Can he still play for us in 2024? Will he even want to stick around that long? Ugh, bad news for all parties involved....

I find it hard to understand how we've ended up in a system in which a player would be allowed to transfer, enroll in their new school, and participate in practice without knowing if the transfer waiver will be approved. Hoping one of MSU's recent big name transfers in another sport doesn't run into the same issues.

I don't think this was unexpected. As has been well documented nationally, the NCAA transfer rules changed regarding second time transfers this last offseason. It's unfortunate for all of the guys that transferred this last offseason, but going forward this will likely be the norm. I think many programs were hoping the players that transferred this last offseason would get "grandfather waivers" based on last years rules, but that would make too much sense for the NCAA.

Big picture I don't think the rule change is bad, goes back to sitting out a year for transfer the second time while still allowing one "free" transfer, but it would have been nice to at least let those that entered the portal before the rules changed get through.

It’s certainly amazing. Isaiah can transfer to San Jose State and go through Spring ball, then decide to transfer again to Cal a few weeks later and play with no problem.

Gotta feel for this kid. From everything I've heard, he is an extremely talented young man who would be an instant difference maker for the cats offense. I would imagine he would stay since he has to sit out a year anyway. Did this happen to another player last year?

Same thing happened to a WR at UNC.

The big problem is that the NCAA doesn’t have hardset rules, and the rules they have, they don’t apply the same every time. So it’s not that MSU had bad information, it’s really just that the NCAA sucks.

Not surprising given the ruling on the Tez Walker eligibility issue at North Carolina a couple weeks ago. The NCAA is a JOKE. Unless you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt with tangible evidence the second transfer improved your life and/or health, you are going to be denied at this point.

I was asking a rhetorical question. Because it looks like the two scenarios are very similar - except one is currently playing and one is not.

Maybe they submitted a waiver request immediately and it got processed before the rule change? I don't think he graduated from Boise State which would be the only other obvious reason.
