Long shot but does pac 12 get desperate to survive and take FCS teams? Proapbly not just popped in head for second
I see one likely ending for the PAC#? and that is dissolution. As the highest revenue schools continue leaving, the potential media revenues continue to decrease which causes more schools to try and leave. I won't be surprised to see all the schools with invites to other P5 conferences with the exception of OSU & WSU. Colorado already heading to Big12 with Arizona actively following. Pretty sure ASU and Utah will soon follow. UW and UO are actively pursuing Big 10. Stanford and Cal maybe go Big10, maybe independent, maybe stay, maybe... who cares.

With the weakest 2 to 4 teams remaining, the PAC is no longer a P5 conference. If they try to stick around, they will be cast down with the rest of the G5.

The only thing I can say for certain is that this is interesting as hell to watch. Is it causing an absolute jumbled mess? Yes. Do I chuckle at the thought of an Arizona vs. UCF in-conference game in any sport? Also yes.

Pretty sad to see rivalries like the Apple Cup and Civil War come to an end because of TV $.

Or... the remaining Pac members try to convince ... Wyoming, Colorado State, and ... Air Force? to join.

Ugly mess, pretty sad to see the Pac gutted and on the verge of collapse.
I dont know. Its sad in terms of the history of the Rose Bowl. But the PAC is the who gives a dang conference and has been for a long time. Im not saying any of those schools are bad schools. Its just nobody cares about them outside of the pacific time zone. I think their lack of a tv deal magnifies that. Im not sure I love mega conferences but my college football Saturdays would be no different if there is no PAC.

They wont come to and end. Georgia/Georgia Tech, Clemson/SC, Iowa/Iowa St, Notre Dame/USC. Those rivalries mean something to those fan bases and both schools will benefit from not having to travel across the country to play one another.

Well I read the MWC has a big exit penalty right now and no one is going to pay it to go join the Pac.

I think the Pac is toast.

Agreed. Gotta fill up the non-conference games with somebody. Might as well be the team down the road you've been playing for 100 years.

Still never going to be the same. Picture Cat/Griz being played Week 3 before prepping for conference play.

Exactly! However, I can picture something similar because for many years Cat/gris wasn't played as the last game of the regular season.

True, but with the mess that will be 2B1G scheduling, maybe they can play their historic/OOC rivalry game on the historic rivalry weekend (Cat/griz week) and then play their conference "rivalry" game over Thanksgiving weekend.

Seems like the dream (or nightmare -take your pick) of MSU/UM moving up to the MW is dead for the foreseeable future (maybe years?). In light of today's events, it seems inevitable that all Western FCS schools (include NDSU/SDSU in this list) are locked out of moving to FBS for a long time. Here are the likely scenarios based on reading the tea leaves of sportswriters in a somewhat likely order

1) WSU/OSU move to the Mountain West. Cal and Stanford go independent. No room in the Inn for MSU/UM.
2) WSU/OSU move to MWC. Cal and Stanford get a late invite to the BIG 10. Still no room at the inn.
3) PAC-12 (I mean Pac-4) officially merges with the MWC and calls it self Mountains and Minds Conference (M&M). Wait, I think that motto is taken. So they call them selves the PAC-16 or Mountain Ocean West (MOW). IN any case, 16 teams in a G-5 league and they will not invite an FCS school. 16 teams is enough.
5) San Diego State realizes they really screwed up and now begs to join the PAC-6 (with Hawaii) as those are the only six schools kinda close to the ocean. Wait, isnt FreNose State and San Jose State closer to the ocean than WSU? Scratch that name.
6) MSU/UM/Weber State/Idaho/SDSU/NDSU/UNI/UND/USD/and one other team out west that is good (hmm.. Sac State or UCD?) form a SUPER FCS conference called the Super FCS Conference (all the other names with Mountain or Pacific in them are taken) and beat each other up each year to to enter the playoffs and get to play a conference foe in the FCS championship game. After three years, all other FCS schools realize they have no chance to play in the FCS championship and form a new division -" DI-AA-Sub-alot" with their own playoff system. Tarleton State wins the championship and immediately joins the BIG 48 (which by then has absorbed the MAC and AAC conferences).
7) Stanford, the school with more NCAA Championships than ANY SCHOOL IN THE NCAA (look it up! Its true), decides to form a conference called Super Mature Athletes Reaching The Top-At Super Smart Schools (SMARTT-ASSS) who solve quadratic equations and write fortran while running/swimming/fencing/poloing/jumping to championships. The league quickly folds after Stanford finds out there are no athletes at the other Super Smart Schools (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc..)
8 ) We all come to our senses and realize we are spending our free time watching other people do something that has no inherent value rather than doing something ourselves. All pro sport leagues and major college sports leagues collapse and students go to school to learn something and we all exercise on Saturday and Sunday, become healthy and live till we are 95 and then drop dead in the driveway doing 50 pushups. (OK, this is the least plausible of all the possible results from this week's head spinning realignments).

And I thought I just wanted to go watch a plain old football game on a Saturday afternoon.... :-k

I had a bro in Law a while back, he has passed away, that was a HUGE USC fan, southern cal. If SC was playing on the day of a family get together he always picked SC. To say the least, he was selfish, self-absorbed.

Heard a rumor this morning from a former BSC official that there has been discussions on a new FBS conference that includes MSU.

Oregon State, Washington State, the Montana schools, the Dakota schools, Boise State. Others that have been discussed for said conference are Wyoming, Colorado State, Air Force, Utah State and Weber State.

Regional conferences such as the Sun Belt will dominate college athletics in the near future. The general public will soon tire of being relegated to casual fan status unable to attend their school's many away games and those in the Group of 5 and FCS will enjoy the natural, regional rivalries and enjoy all the game day festivities and all that goes with a college gameday experience. I look forward to playing schools like the Dakotas, Wyoming, Colorado State, even the Nevada and Idaho schools on an annual basis.
