Re: 2023 - MBB Possible Incoming Transfer List
Would love to see this kid succeed. We need Montana kids to not only be on the roster but to occasionally excel at the Big Sky level. There are not many who can. I hope Royce is the next one.

Re: 2023 - MBB Possible Incoming Transfer List
Good chance for Royce to see if he can play at this level, probably cheaper to walk on at MSU than it is to receive scholarships from CC. He has lots of tools that he can develop. Lewistown was loaded for bear last year and more than likely will be the team to beat this year as well. It is not often you see two kids with D1 abilities on the same team in the same smaller rural community. If the Cats can now land Fischer, we will have to have our own cheering section for Central MT fans, as those two will put butts in the seats.

Am I correct in thinking that Fischer Brown is the son of former MSU player Justin Brown?centralmtfan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 7:33 amGood chance for Royce to see if he can play at this level, probably cheaper to walk on at MSU than it is to receive scholarships from CC. Re: 2023 - MBB Possible Incoming Transfer List
MSU should be signing 1 MT kid a year, schollie or walk on. Should be at least a D1 prospect every year with the travel ball they play and success those teams have. I understand the size and quickness issue. Kids like Bellach, Germer, etc have deserved a chance. So does Robinson. If after a couple years they aren't making it Frontier school will always take them.

I disagree a bit on this. Why not have it go the other way? If a kid is killing it at a lower level, bring them in from the portal. We are very limited by funding and our assistant coaches only have a certain amount of time to spend on player development. We can't afford to "waste" that time for the betterment of a Frontier Conference team. We need players ready to play in order for us to compete with the larger (budget) schools. Therefor we should only be targeting those kids that are ready to go. Unfortunately, that may not include a Montana kid.

I believe that with the portal situation the way it is, the Frontier Conference will become somewhat of a development league for the D1 schools. I believe sooner than later we will see some of these top NAIA kids take shots at the D1 schools after they have played at a lower level and developed their game for a few years. NAIA will land some young raw talent and as they mature, they will move up.

I don't believe the big sky conference is any better than the Frontier Conference top to bottom. Two years ago Tech went into Adam's Fieldhouse and beat the Griz. Do you think, honestly, half the big sky teams could have beat College of Idaho or Western's women's team a few years ago? Name another NCAA conference you honestly think the big sky is competitive with. Summit? Going to find out this winter.

You will find really good guards at NAIA and D2 because there are a lot of guys that size walking the planet than 6'9"to 7 foot guys.

Re: 2023 - MBB Possible Incoming Transfer List
Come on CatGrad, do you honestly believe the Frontier Conference is as good as the Big Sky Conference? Occasionally a lower division school will pull an upset, however, I can't recall the last time the Cats lost to a lower division school. And until recently we were the middle of the pack Big Sky School.
The Big Sky was ranked 19 out of 32 conferences last year. I understand that there are some fabulous players in the lower divisions and many of them would start on Big Sky rosters. But that number isn't a large one.

Yep, CatGrouch is off his meds again. The guy does have some lucid moments/posts every once in a while, but most times his comments leave us scratching our heads...DwaineF wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 3:21 pmCome on CatGrad, do you honestly believe the Frontier Conference is as good as the Big Sky Conference? Ringling has more name recognition than Wilsall and Clyde Park combined. How in the hell should I give a damn what you post? Anyone else for that matter. What the hell is the matter with you?grizzh8r wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 4:13 pmYep, CatGrouch is off his meds again. You're correct. I loved watching Dennis Rodman. Probably before your time but the Knicks had a couple of guards from small schools, not to mention Phil Jackson from that huge town of Williston and North Dakota, even though he was born in Montana.homeytennis wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 11:55 amYou will find really good guards at NAIA and D2 because there are a lot of guys that size walking the planet than 6'9"to 7 foot guys.

Yes, I do think they'd do well in the tournament Lewistown used to have kids from all over the country go play in. Plus, I think most of the teams would kick the holy sh*t out of big sky teams. But, we'll never really know. When's the last time a big sky team won a game in the NCAA Tournament? I'll give you a clue. I was a young man. Idaho in the early 80s or Idaho State in the late 70s? Maybe a Weber team?DwaineF wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 3:21 pmCome on CatGrad, do you honestly believe the Frontier Conference is as good as the Big Sky Conference? Re: 2023 - MBB Possible Incoming Transfer List
Frontier is very competitive top to bottom. None of their teams would finish in top half of Big Sky. Each may have a player or two who can play Big Sky. Bellach was MVP last year, he played a little early but I think made right choice to go Frontier. Always felt he looked slower than others when playing for CatsDwaineF wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 3:21 pmCome on CatGrad, do you honestly believe the Frontier Conference is as good as the Big Sky Conference? I am really anxious (and curious) to see how this team will do. I honestly don’t have a clue of what to expect. I do know that I definitely plan to renew my season tickets.

Nope. But we'll never know. They don't play each other on a regular basis in a neutral site.tetoncat wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 6:41 pmFrontier is very competitive top to bottom. When you post - A) ridiculous or B) uninformed - drivel, don't whine when you get called out on it.
Exhibit A: Ridiculous
In a full D1 schedule season, the likelihood of NAIA schools having a winning record against Big Sky competition is very small. It's the exact same arguments that SEC apologists such as yourself make AGAINST G5 teams getting into the CFB Playoff, claiming that and undefeated record against G5 teams and maybe one or 2 P5 teams in the nonconference season shouldn't put them ahead of 1 or even 2 loss SEC teams. You can't have it one way in football, and not the same way in basketball.
https://bigskyconf.com/news/2020/3/5/me ... story.aspx
Exhibit B: Uninformed
Sadly, the last BSC team to nab a win in the NCAA Tournament was dUMb in 2006. Before that, it was Weber State in 1995 and 1999. So not only were you wrong, you weren't even close. By a couple decades!
