The last few years, between Covid, NIL, and the portal have really made clear who the have and have-nots are in college athletics. In football, MSU are very much the haves because we play in the FCS. For basketball we are a clear have-not. That doesn't mean have-nots will never put together a successful team, it just means that when those successful teams come it will lead to greener pastures for everyone involved - players and coaches. MSU is a stepping stone in every way in basketball in particular. Enjoy the good times while they are here, and we had a hell of a run.

This one was my biggest fear. Incredible player, was looking forward to seeing him wreck the big sky next year. Damn that sucks.

So the entire coaching staff is gone, and like 5 players including 3-4 projected starters. Basically the entire program has been gutted.

That didn't take too long to go from 2023-2024 conference favorite to complete rebuild.

Hard to say. But I mean when the entire staff you committed to leaves, not surprising players want to leave as well. Plus I'm sure a handful end up at Utah State.

The transfers we’ve seen leave IMO were all foregone conclusions. Brown and Ford came to be coached by Sprinkle. Sprinkle leaving = they are too. Great and Brown were being pushed to go to Utah State. Those two will be Aggies by the end of the week. Jury is still out on Battle on whether he will rejoin Sprink and crew (though I think it’s very likely). Nick G and Germer left on their own (or pressure by coaches) in search of a better situation and more playing time.
This goes back to players going to schools based on who they are being coached by (high school recruits or transfers alike). I don’t fault any of these guys for leaving and wanting to go with the coach who recruited them. Let’s hope they find what they’re looking for and have great success wherever they land!

Trying to keep you guys a little positive around here….didn’t EWU basically go through something very similar when Legans left for Portland. Seemed like a number of players followed him or transferred out from a very good team….yet the new coach had an exceptional couple of seasons anyways, including this past one. Hard to say if that has potential in MSU as all of the studs are gone, but EWU showed it could be done.

Yeah this aligns a lot with my thinking as well, hopefully this new coach has some horses willing to follow him to Bozeman. Wouldn't mind a few more Pac-12 transfers if Capko is really the guy.

MSU's current roster consists of 2 sophomores (Miller, Colceag) and 4 juniors (McMahon, Lecholat, Patterson, Ash). Some decent talent still there for the new coach to supplement with you guessed it, a bunch of transfers.
