Re: Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament
That was the ugliest college basketball game I've ever seen. It had no redeeming qualities...except for the Bobcats winning of course. For a while I think Weber State forgot they had other players who could take a shot. They wanted to run everything through Dillon Jones even though he could barely hold himself up. Amazing defensive performance by Darius Brown on Verplancken who is really good at the mid-range game. Brown made him a non-factor late in that game. I don't know what to say...it was so ugly. Glad we got the win. Now we have to chase Jalen Cone all over the court tomorrow night. Danny needs to trust his bench for NAU.

Re: Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament
JB was getting a consistent dose of double-teams and seriously lacks the court vision and decision making to pass out of it consistently. Overall the game plan with the two bigs worked out nicely. The only caveat to that being that Osobor being the “primary” post player. JB just never got into a rhythm and looked out of sorts all game. He hasn’t looked like a preseason BigSky MVP all season IMO…Carolina Bobcat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 1:05 amI had to freaking bartend tonight, so I only saw the last 5 minutes plus the twelve overtimes. Question: Is there a reason that Belo was so awful at the end? Not talking about the inexplicable airball three, but the two horrible turnovers that sandwiched that three and basically being invisible down the stretch. Might as well have not been on the court…

I did see Belo looking at his hand throughout the end. Maybe bothered more than usual tonight. Who knows?Desert_Bobcat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 1:41 amJB was getting a consistent dose of double-teams and seriously lacks the court vision and decision making to pass out of it consistently. He played 45 out of 50 minutes in the most physically defensive NCAA game I’ve seen all season, and he played them setting screens and getting hit in the post repeatedly. I was impressed at how well he defended the entire game.Carolina Bobcat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 1:05 amI had to freaking bartend tonight, so I only saw the last 5 minutes plus the twelve overtimes. Redeemable: 1. Excellent on ball defense and defensive pressure in general. 2. They didn’t let the physicality overwhelm them and matched the level of physicality Weber was bringing. 3. They didn’t let their poor offensive execution, poor shot selection, and bone headed turnovers, affect their play on the defensive side of thingsBelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 1:36 amThat was the ugliest college basketball game I've ever seen. Non-Redeemable: 1. General offensive execution 2. Shot selection 3. Post entry and exit passes

I thought bloody nose affected him. Didn't look as good after. Constant double or help after we showed we couldn't hit a shotPapaG wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 7:38 amHe played 45 out of 50 minutes in the most physically defensive NCAA game I’ve seen all season, and he played them setting screens and getting hit in the post repeatedly. Plus he put Tew into foul trouble early. Problem was the numerous missed layups when Tew was out of the game.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 8:38 amI thought bloody nose affected him. Re: Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament
From the sounds of the crowd, it seemed there had to be a pretty large contingent of Cat fans. I re-watched the highlight of the end of the game on ESPN this morning and it clearly appears that the alley-oop to Battle was a designed play. Belo screened Battle's defender and gave him a clear running lane to the hoop to catch the pass from Brown. Brown's drive into the lane drew all 4 other defenders to him, but he was able to get the ball in the air for Battle's dunk.
I was disappointed that they didn't show a replay of the final attempt by Weber last night because I wasn't clear on who had the block. After watching the highlight this morning, it was Fuller.
Hope the boys got a good night's sleep. That was a meat grinder like I've never seen.

Great back-screen by Belo on this well-designed play by Sprinkle.

Both Brint and Andrew Schmidt had tweets griping about officiating. I could go back and find em but I'm lazy and don't want to but that was the genesis of my comment. Go look though and Brint has a new tweet doubling down on his belief that Cats get more calls and its the reason they've won several of their games including last night.

Pumping money into a floundering university and middling athletic department as your main rival flourishes in both academics and athletics has to be a bitter pill.Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:33 amBoth Brint and Andrew Schmidt had tweets griping about officiating. Reality for hoops is Bannan is their only well-rounded player. While he’s a good player and fun to watch, Moody can’t do what Battle can in terms of athleticism. That alley-oop game winner is a play the Gris couldn’t run for Moody.

Was at the game.
I was impressed with Great’s defense on Jones. For a big guy he moves pretty good.

Re: Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament
I'm more confident about tonight's game than I was vs Weebs as well. It WAS an ugly game and there was definitely questionable offensive execution, but both teams played amazing defense. NAU is not near the defensive team that Weber is. They dared us to shoot from outside and tried to take away the paint, Battle & Patterson both shot the ball poorly, but I'd bet dollars to donuts they both shoot better tonight.

Re: Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament
Weber did a great job of mucking it up last night. They wanted the game to be slow and ugly and MSU couldn't get out of that. Weber and NAU might have been the two teams with the most momentum coming into this tournament. Weber is NAU's only loss (regular season finale, in Flagstaff) in the last 6 games. Weber's record doesn't look good but after a 2-7 start, they've been solid. Since then they're 16-8 with 2 losses to MSU (and 1 win), a close loss at BYU, and 2 losses to EWU who was beating everybody. They controlled most of the game last night, I just think MSU is good enough to (barely) win a game they don't control. It felt like MSU was lucky to win, but I think Weber would've been lucky to win too. It was just an ugly, close fight.

Re: Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament
LOL. Think back a decade or two and UM was routinely kicking MSU's ass in basketball, so all MSU fans had to root for was for UM to lose in the tournament and not make the NCAAs. Fast forward to now and here's Brint whining about refs as all he has left to root for is...Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:33 amBoth Brint and Andrew Schmidt had tweets griping about officiating. At the game the advertising ribbon that circles the court seems to have a significant if not noticeable impact on the lighting. Is it noticeable on the court???
