WBB vs. Portland State on Saturday

Post by aucat » Fri Feb 24, 2023 10:31 am

Well, here we go. HUGE game. Sac State is now right on our heels. If the Lady Bobcats want to hang a championship banner they need to gain a split on this road trip, and that means winning this critical game. Unlike the small raucous crowd that Sac State had, Portland will be like playing in an empty tomb. The key to winning the game will be not allowing open 3 pointers. PSU used them to defeat the UM Lady Griz last night. I watched the last quarter and PSU has shooters. The ladies need to bring their A game on both offense and defense if they want to put themselves in a great position for their closeout Senior Night on Monday. The PSU game starts two hours before the men start, so I will nervously watch and hold my breath that the defense steps up before heading over to watch the men on Senior Day. Go Cats!.

PSU is on a 7 game home win streak including wins over UM and NAU, so this one won't be easy. NAU finishes against UNC and Weber so safe to assume that MSU's margin for error if they want the outright championship is zero. Splitting the last two games still allows MSU to hang a banner next year but likely costs them the #1 seed in the tournament.

Should be a good game.

BTW....the local chapter of the Alumni association is having a no-host social before the game at the Library Taphouse, which is right on the PSU campus...we'll start at noon...and walk to the Viking Pavillion shortly before gametime (its a five minute walk).

If you've not seen the Viking Pavilion, I encourage you to come out. It's a top notch facility.

Go Cats!!

Dykstra did not play against Sac St. Her rebounding and defense could have tipped the scales in that game. She was suited up but it appeared she had an injury to her upper leg which was wrapped up. I hope it's not serious, we need her badly to spell Bad Bear and Deden.

Good defense against PSU. Got off to a good start and then the lid went on the basket. Up 15-9 after 1

What's all the extra passes? Beasley gave up a wide open lay in for a forced pass that resulted in a turnover. On a positive note, the Cats are doing a great job on the offensive glass.

I think PSU has three or more shot clock violations. If we could score on multiple offensive possessions this would be a blowout. Up 10 right now.

26-19 at halftime. So many turnovers. So many missed easy shots. PSU's zone is different and screws up offenses sometimes.

Nice win today. Each of the LADIES scored and had at least 1 rebound....

That was an absolutely terrific defensive performance! They allowed PSU only 2 field goals in the 2nd quarter, and again only 2 in the 3rd quarter (according to the Portland announcer). They had very few errors or breakdowns while the top-rotation players were in the game. I just watched the defense for awhile, and talk about a well-oiled machine. Congratulations, ‘Cats! 💙💛😺

Both games today were unreal. We are watching the Cats scratch, claw, and hang on for dear life. A mere moment later, we’re up by 20. My wife swears I didn’t fall asleep.

Great performances by both teams.

Best defensive performance all year. Coach Bin knew the Cats had to defend the perimeter and they sure got it done.

Now we need to win it outright on Monday night. I watched almost all of the ladies game and then listened to the last few minutes on the way to the men's game. Great crowd for Senior Day for the men. I know that Senior NIght for the ladies is on a Monday night but at least the weather has moderated. This team needs a big turnout. It's a huge game for one thing and the fans really need to show appreciation to this team.

This is hilarious. But I gotta know-who snuck the squirt guns into the building and got them loaded. There must be a real conspiracy here.

Ha, I noticed watching the game how much in a hurry the Bobcats seemed to be to get back to the locker room after the handshake line. This explains why!

Great job coaches in getting some pay back on the players! Binford looked like she's had Navy Seal training 8)

I went to Coach Bin’s public job interview. When someone asked about her best memory of the WNBA, she said it was the team camaraderie and things like TPing the coach’s room. She said she would always try to inject some fun along the way for her players. She’s been true to her word. 💙 💛 😺
