All good points. Bobby was in a very difficult spot.HookedOnGriz wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2023 1:56 pmLet’s flip the script so we can see how you would handle it…..If you were the coach of the Cats and you tried to bring Crews on after he posted an emoji of a black man with a gun to his head and used the “N” word and it was made public by former Cats players on social media publicly calling out MSU and its coaches….then you had at least 10 current players from your Cats roster telling you they are entering the portal if Crews is allowed an opportunity….then you have Cats players saying “no we don’t need or want him to come in and explain his side and apologize”…..how do you handle it? Serious question…please share how you would handle this as I’m very intrigued.Cataholic wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2023 8:23 amExcept that Hauck continually misled the Crews family. He told them them that UM would bring Crews on and then backed out of that promise. Maybe if Hauck had been honest with the family, they could have made educated decisions about what to say in public (like with Butte Sports) and got ahead of any Kaimin article. Hauck’s handling of the situation was extremely poor and has even affected the Griz’s recruiting position with future Sentinel prospects.AFCAT wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2023 12:23 amSounds reasonable and true. I don’t think that will fly around here.HookedOnGriz wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 11:12 pmHauck was trying to bring him on to the Griz as a walk on, just like the Cats are doing. He didn’t have Zac address the team and beg for forgiveness because it was still damn new at the time and there were Griz players (very good ones) threatening to leave the team if he was allowed to join. Once the Kaimin got involved and claimed taking him on would take the Griz backwards 10000 steps, I don’t think Hauck had a choice. It wasn’t that look ago that Hauck had to sit in front of a community panel in Missoula when he was being hired at UM again forced to make promises that the kids will stay out of trouble. It is what it is.
Hauck isn’t perfect, but in this situation he could have blown up the entire team/program by letting him join. Did he piss off Zac and the family with that decision….sounds like it. Would I rather he piss off the Crews family than blow up the program…1000000000000000000000000%.
Again, how do you handle it?

Who is Cat4lyf ? Not me.
I am an MSU Alum in ChE 1979 from Butte and a Bobcat QB Club member. I contacted Zac Crews directly. He is a good kid who made a mistake. He is glad to be at MSU with a chance to excel. And I am sure he will.

Liar. All boosters know they can't contact a potential player. Lying about this can get you in legal trouble.
Take a day or two cat4lyf and think about it.

He’s most likely going to be on the defensive side of the ball, however, he was a very good quarterback with a great passer rating his senior year.
135 for 199 with just 3 interceptions; 20 touchdowns and 1,771 yards. 172.8 passer rating.
Played both ways as a junior and had 14 TFL, including 8.5 sacks.

I had a three way call with Bobby and Zac. We all said this was Mark Emmert's fault. Andy Reid reached out and said he would send Mahommes to help with any difficulty times. I hope this clears this up.

My only hope is that his racist remark does not pull the team apart. I believe he should have a second chance. Coach V will have a great plan to integrate him into the team and reform his racism; a "Remember the Titans" type spring camp.

Could this Caupey/cat4lyf douche character possibly be Alpha making his not-so-subtle return? Anyway, our mods might wanna take a harder look at banning this bum if he is gonna go down this road as trying to come off as a Bobcat booster and NCAA recruiting violations.

Today's Bozeman Daily Chronicle has a story on this. As for me, while I know he was just 15, and it's easy to say "second chance" this all makes me very nervous. I'm looking at the national coverage that is taking place with the Alabama basketball player who provided the gun that killed a young mother a few weeks ago. One of the guys involved was a bench rider and was immediately suspended and referred to as a "former player" but now we find out that the star of the team was involved, and guess what, he's still on the team. And they are being ridiculed nationwide. Deservedly so in my opinion. Yes Crews was young, but we're talking about something that could really disrupt our team and the program. Personally, I wish he would go somewhere else.

He can move and he’s agile for sure. A broad range of athletic skills on a great frame. Not too many state champ QB/hurdler-TJ-javelin 1-3-1/wrestlers (3rd) around. It’llbe interesting to see how he looks on the field relative to the rest of the team. Sometimes you get to watch a practice and you see a player and it’s like time stands still. A true freshman that carries himself like a fourth year starter.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:29 amPlayed primarily TE his junior season on offense. 17 catches for 301 yards and 5 touchdowns.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 7:40 amHe’s most likely going to be on the defensive side of the ball, however, he was a very good quarterback with a great passer rating his senior year.

Here’s my two cents that nobody cares about.
I don’t blame UM for doing what they did, don’t have a problem with MSU bringing him on in the way they are. I imagine if the schools were reversed, the situation would have played out relatively similar.

You're not really going to equate a high school kid sending a racist emoji with an active college player giving a teammate a gun used to kill someone are you?aucat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:41 amToday's Bozeman Daily Chronicle has a story on this. Hmmmmm. 6’ 4” with a big frame to build on. Fast and strong, freaky good athlete that could literally play almost any position, including QB. Where have we seen this movie before.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:56 amHe can move and he’s agile for sure. A broad range of athletic skills on a great frame. Re: Zac Crews
I believe this has been thrown waaaayyyy out of proportion. A high school kid uses an emoji that is very inappropriate but he thought it was a private thing. Doesn't make it less wrong but good grief he's a kid. Kids do dumb things. Compound that with growing up in a state that is predominately white, with alot of Native Americans but not a huge amount of other races. That creates ignorance but not automatically racism. If this kid was anything but white it would very likely never been screen shot in the first place and no one would have been any the wiser.
I say this because growing up in California, and going to school in an area that was predominately not white, caused me to learn some things that my children growing up in Montana didn't. My best friend through junior high was black. I was part of the family, a little sister, but one day I took the liberty to use the N word towards one of my big "sisters" as I had heard the girls do to each other many, many times. I had crossed a line that I was unaware existed. I was informed that I NEVER had the right to use that word, even in jest, as I had done or intended to. Complete double standard from my perspective, but it didn't matter what I thought. Through high school I heard my dark skinned friends, (black. Mexican, Samoan, etc.) use terms towards each other that were derogatory and racist but it wasn't an issue. I never crossed that line again however, knowing there was a different standard for me.
This kid made a stupid mistake, for which he has repented and learned from. The truth is he didn't direct that at any one individual, he didn't attack someone, pull a gun on anyone, beat up anyone, nor was ever characterized, that I've heard of, as a racist person in his behavior or speech prior to this one incident.
Personally I hope this kid finds success academically at MSU, and also on the football field, but mostly in his adult life without this very minor mistake, in my opinion, ruining his life.

As far as using the N word, it depends on if it ends in “er” or “a”, and if you have permission from your black friends to say it. At least I think that’s how someone on here explained it.
