Our IPF is estimated to cost $15 million, the flier says we are competing with SDSU and NDSU whose facilities are in the 30-50 million range.
I understand the BAC need to be included when comparing and here is the question. When you combine our two potential facilities how does that actually stock up to the other two?
1) Assume our SQ feet is smaller because we are also using the brick for some things
2) does the IPF but us on equal ground or are we the best of the next tier?
I don't know what would be left to add that those programs have. Functionally I think this just about gives MSU football everything it needs. I'm sure you could always throw in some bells and whistles for recruiting, but honestly when you're trying to recruit a kid to Fargo, you need a little extra flash.
I think an 80 yard field is plenty. In practice you rarely have plays where you're using 60 full yards of a field (including the EZ). And if you do have those plays occasionally it's not the end of the world to pause the double rep deal and stagger the two groups. More is always better, but I'd think 80 yards is ample. I do like that the building could be extended fairly easily down the road.
I get it, it would be nice to be able to claim MSU has THE best facilities. But with recruits I think you show them we have locker/weight/training/meeting facilities that are second to none, then show that there is an IPF. I don't think anybody cares all that much which one of those is nicest, just that there is one.

Great place for the IPF. But for the love of God. Make it 100 yards. You have the crews there building it. Don't come back later, to finish the job.

Re: Indoor facility
You need 100 yards to play the game, but you don't need more than 80 to set up your gameplan, even on ST. The safety punt is 80 yards from the endzone. And that rarely if ever actually gets kicked to the endzone. The kickoff plus runup requires 70 yards. Anything longer than that is just a footrace at the end of the play, and those are not the point of practice.

The original plan was only going to be 80 yards as well. A good majority of practice facilities are only 80 yards.

Re: Indoor facility
I’ve always wondered why the indoor fields are shorter. Most of the college facilities I’ve been to are 80yds and nearly every HS in TX has an indoor complex with a 40yd + end zone field. You wouldn’t think adding another 20 yards of turf and building space would add that much cost but maybe I’m wrong.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 4:42 pmIt seems to be all the coaches have been asking for these last few years, so I'm guessing it's all that's needed.catgrad05 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 4:22 pmDon’t misunderstand I am not in the “it’s not good enough” group. Re: Indoor facility
Probably because there is an added expense and it’s not necessary. No plays you work on need 100 yards of field. Kickoffs are the longest “play” a team will run and doesn’t need 100 yards. If you wanna work on that kind of stuff you just back your kick team up. 80 yards is plenty of room to do everything they do in a typical practice.ND0479 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:06 pmI’ve always wondered why the indoor fields are shorter. It's called not paying for a F'ing mob cost twice, for the contractor and every sub that works on the job. But, I guess you've never owned a construction company. If they only want 80 yards, fine.

I think the Cats should build a 110 yard long by 65 yard wide field, just in case any of the athletes want to go play in Canada someday.

I fully admit that I assumed most IPF’s were 100yds. So learning otherwise, I take back my concern over it.thisnamesucks wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 7:51 pmCan anyone explain what the benefit of the extra 20 yards really would add?
If that’s what the majority of schools do and it works and everyone is happy with it, that’s more than enough for me.
