So what's the magical number of years, Loyal?? 15? 20? 21.67? 25? 1,546? Exactly how many years do the Griz need to pack WaGriz before they're no longer bandwagon fans? Give me the precise number and I'll honor you as the winner of the argument. Be prepared to back up your claim with emperical and verifiable data.lifeloyalsigmsu wrote:Oklahoma, OSU, Nebraska, etc had very successful traditions long before the early 90's. Winning always puts more butts in seats. But if Griz fans are wagon-jumpers, then so are Cornhusker fans. Or Oklahoma fans. Or Ohio State fans. Montana has drawn full houses long enough to just say they have great, loyal fans. Arguments?
Where were the griz fans before this very successful 15 or so year streak began?
That's all I'm asking.
Many of you are bandwagon fans and it's only necessary to point that out to the fans that exude such arrogance.
I can think of only one thing worse than being a Cat fan.

You don't even have to look at numbers to say Griz fans are bandwagon. Just meet your average Joe Griz fan out and ask him some football questions and you pretty much can find that out right awayGrizinWashington wrote:So what's the magical number of years, Loyal?? 15? 20? 21.67? 25? 1,546? I'll admit - it's fans like me who are the problem. Chronic bandwagoners who had the nerve to not be born several decades earlier or who had the audacity to not follow the team before they actually moved to the state to attend and graduate from the University, join the alumni association and travel for most home AND road games.

You make some great points that I agree with. However, I'm eager to see the fanbase when a losing season ensues.UMclassof2002 wrote:I'll admit - it's fans like me who are the problem. And you wonder why people give the fanbase no legitimate respect outside of the team they support. It's easy for me to subscribe to the notion that the fans who weathered the bad years are what adds so much good to a football program whereas those who are the exact opposite types of fans give it a bad name.UMclassof2002 wrote:lifeloyalsigmsu wrote:You make some great points that I agree with. I wasn't around or even alive for those bad years. If the Griz football team has a rough patch (I don't see it happening anytime soon) I won't bail. My allegience and support for this University goes alot farther than athletics.

I like reading BN to get the different perspectives. One thing that has intrigued me is: when did the Griz become the Cats and the Cats become the Griz.lifeloyalsigmsu wrote:And you wonder why people give the fanbase no legitimate respect outside of the team they support. I started following the Griz in the late 60s and early 70s, right when the Cats were in the middle of a great run. When the Griz started winning in the late 80s, we were the fans that had weathered the bad years. Cat fans, on the other hand, were arrogant and never gave the Griz credit regardless of what they did by claiming it didn't measure up to the Cats' accomplishments. To be honest, I still see it that way every time I read 95% of the posts on this board.
What I find intriguing is that many young Cat fans perceive Griz fans the exact same way I have always perceived Cat fans. Lifeloyal's quote above could be me talking about the Cats. I guess its the nature of the rivalry and what makes it so fun
