Re: Tynes in the Portal
It seems like a lot of the team has entered the portal. Am I off base here?

This one makes me nervous for the outlook of next year's squad. I truly hope 2021-22 wasn't our One Shining Moment. Literally and figuratively

Great kid. Great defensive player. I don't think his role was ever going to change under Sprinkle.

This caught my attention, but I agree with Hawks. I didn't see him ever doing much more than he already was doing. In the 35 games, he averaged 7.9 minutes. More than Spears and Fernandez, but still still not a big blow. Let's hope the bleeding has stopped and we make good use of these roster spots.

This. Kellen is a really great young man and teammate, but he is limited offensively. So I agree that his role and minutes were not going to change much in the future.
I think Danny is having these discussions with players and they are jointly deciding what is best for the players.

I wonder if this would have had any impact on Spears decision? Might he change his mind if he thinks there will be more minutes available.

Re: Tynes in the Portal
I think you're a little off base, just because without anyone entering the portal MSU would have had zero scholarships this off-season to bring in new players.
The first three players to leave (Fernandez, Spears, and Reinalda) made sense as they were all pretty deep on the depth chart and will likely be able to play more by transferring. Tynes is more of a surprise, but time will tell as to who Danny can bring in to fill that spot.

Re: Tynes in the Portal
Is it too late your sophomore year to start working on your offensive game and thus prove to be a starter? If not, this is why he's transferring. X was an offensive force along with being a point guard. It looks as though Darius Brown II, the new kid from Northridge is more the type of player Sprinkle wants running the show. Tynes can maybe find his "niche" with a team trying to bolster their defensive back court. Or he needs to put in the work necessary to become an offensive force.

Mr. @Domako sir, if you are listening in — I’d like to know your thoughts on offensive development for a player in Tynes’ situation. Thanks.

Re: Tynes in the Portal
Thought it was interesting how active the transfer portal is....46 players have opted in just from the Big Sky! I think this is going to be a common occurrence going forward. For the Big Sky, it might be a blessing in disguise, if we're able to nab some big time dropdowns.

Re: Tynes in the Portal
This has been my thought as well. I think water finds its level and the transfer portal gets players at the level they belong at. Talent-wise, I believe it doesn't hurt smaller or mid-major programs unless they're not recruiting the portal. If they're losing talent and they're only replacing with high school players, I think this sets them back. I think the big downside to the portal is just that athletes aren't staying with a program and that hurts continuity some (less in basketball than football IMO), but it's just a little less fun for fans. As fans we want players who are there for 4-5 years and love our programs as much as we do, but that's going away. If programs get better and just win, fans will forget all about that though!Catfanatic84 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 6:49 amThought it was interesting how active the transfer portal is....46 players have opted in just from the Big Sky! This makes a lot of sense. Much closer to home and he'll almost certainly get a lot more playing time there, as Maine was 6-23 last year and is likely looking to rebuild the roster.
