I could get on board with that. I also think when they build the new permanent indoor facility, they should name the walkway in front of it the ‘Bobcat Hall of Fame walkway.’ There could be a brick wall along the walkway with the names of every member of the Hall of Fame. That would be nicer than the lame Hall of Fame room they have in the Brick. I know they want to build a bigger Hall of Fame room but something outside would be cool for the fans to see on game days.WalkOn79 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 12:19 pmSomeone else talked about a ring of honor vs. retiring numbers. If they don't retire his number that space in the Fieldhouse where the old coaches offices were needs a name. The Troy Andersen Center For Academic Excellence has a nice ring to it.

The Academic Center is already named after Bozeman Health. BH donated a couple million bucks to fund the BAC so cash money gets the nod over athletic and academic performance in this case.coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 1:17 pmIf they don't retire his number that space in the Fieldhouse where the old coaches offices were needs a name. Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
In a lot of programs you'll see "revered numbers", which means they're still available for players to wear. You could do a few things.
One, you could say "this new recruit will wear the Travis Lulay #14 jersey". It could be anybody.
Or you could have a bunch of legacy numbers. #15 will always go to a Montana kid who's a junior or senior, or #7 will go to a former walk-on, or whatever you want to say.
I'd like to see MSU come up with maybe a dozen of its best OR otherwise most respected players ever, then backfill from there. If Travis Lulay is one, figure out how to honor him (that's unique to him) and make it consistent so there's some prerequisite to wear #14. Maybe they get it their whole career, maybe they change as an older player. You'd make that kid learn about the player their number honors and do some sort of speech to the team about that player.
It's hard to retire numbers in football. Texas A&M, with all its history, has one retired number. Alabama has zero. Alabama could have 500 retired numbers if success was the qualifier.
If anybody deserves a retired number it's Troy Andersen. However, if Tommy Mellott turns out as good as his potential has shown us, he'll deserve it too. And if MSU enjoys continued and increasing success over the next few decades, there will likely be a handful more who deserve it. Suddenly you have 10 number that are out of the mix.
I'm sure MSU has been having this conversation for years. I think I heard Vigen say he's tired of all the number changing that has to happen through the course of a season, so I expect him to have a pretty big opinion on this too.
And I like AFCAT's idea about the walk of fame or whatever. You could do this whole walkway with a bronze star or helmet or something in the sidewalk, similar to the Hollywood Stars in the ground.

Sports Illustrated has a list of players who were invited to the combine, but there are only 40 names on it so it can't possibly be a complete list. 40 guys would be like one position group.

Yeah, I think it’s over 300. I saw a WR tweet out his invite email, which is something Troy wouldn’t do, but figured there’s be a public list out by now.BLACKnBLUEnGOLD wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 7:31 pmSports Illustrated has a list of players who were invited to the combine, but there are only 40 names on it so it can't possibly be a complete list. 40 guys would be like one position group.

Troy Andersen
All Troy Andersen needed to do was prove he belonged among this group. And prove he belonged he did. Andersen was great in coverage, losing no ground in a variety of coverage installments. He was also great in run defense, moving forward and coming downhill, filling run fits very well.

As a Jets fan (don't ask), I'm thrilled that Robert Saleh is the coach for Troy's team. Saleh is a defensive genius and the Jets have two early 2nd round picks and a dire need at LB (arguably their biggest need).

I love all this hype. Sandland and Person didn't get nearly this much predraft love when they got drafted. Hopefully that means he'll be drafted a lot earlier.

I kind of want him to go to the Broncos for no other reason than I'd be able to watch him play every week (and it would give me a reason to watch the local team). Regardless, he's going to impress a lot of scouts this week.coochorama42 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 3:54 pmAs a Jets fan (don't ask), I'm thrilled that Robert Saleh is the coach for Troy's team. Why would anyone wish someone you like to go play for the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets just so they can fade into obscurity playing for a terrible team?coochorama42 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 3:54 pmAs a Jets fan (don't ask), I'm thrilled that Robert Saleh is the coach for Troy's team.
