Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
So now that is down to 3, what does everyone think? Is Troy the front runner?
Taking my fandom aside, I know I’d take Troy over O’Connell. O’Connell is a REALLY good linebacker. I just think the way Troy affects the game is just so much more, stats don’t always show that.
I don’t know anything about the 3rd guy to know how Troy stacks up against him.

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
Between the two Montana players possibly cancelling each other out and general east coast bias I think the Florida A&M guy has the advantage. Troy is also at a disadvantage in that he's going up against a player from UM, which is a voter favorite due to their recent national championship 20 years ago. Hopefully the best player wins, but if not he's still a Bobcat legend.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 12:47 pmSo now that is down to 3, what does everyone think? Is Troy the front runner?

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
That’s probably what will happen. Troy has probably got the best name recognition. It’s cool they do this, but I doubt the voters really know much about the players.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:03 pmBetween the two Montana players possibly cancelling each other out and general east coast bias I think the Florida A&M guy has the advantage. Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
I think Troy doesn't get it, only because on the national stage voters are just looking at stats. Ask the coaches in the Big Sky who they fear most, it's Troy and that's why he won DPOY. Joe Blow sports writer in Washington DC will look at Troy's stats and be like uh, okay?

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
Justin Ford was 4th, so I could see him and O'Connell "splitting" some votes, which would give a major boost to Troy

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
That’s true, but I think his name recognition is stronger. I think everyone covering the fcs knows Troy Andersen. He had to be top five on every ballot at least.CelticCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:11 pmI think Troy doesn't get it, only because on the national stage voters are just looking at stats. Speaking of stats, here's a good question. Who has more tackles this year, Troy Andersen or Robby Hauck?CelticCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:11 pmI think Troy doesn't get it, only because on the national stage voters are just looking at stats. Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and how the voters decide to look at the stats. There are BIG differences between the 3 of them.
Tackles
Troy - 116 (61 solo)
O'Connell - 99 (42 solo)
Land - 43 (32 solo)
Troy has 2 interceptions (1 pick-6) while O'Connell and Land don't have any.
The biggest difference is the sacks/TFL numbers...
Troy - 2 sacks, 10.5 TFL, 0 FF
O'Connell - 13 sacks, 20.5 TFL, 4 FF
Land - 19 sacks, 25.5 TFL, 3 FF
If voters look at sacks/TFL, Troy is definitely at a disadvantage but it's unfortunate because it really comes down to defensive scheme. I haven't watched any of FAMU's games but I would assume that their defense is similar to Montana's in that they blitz and send pressure ALOT.
Obviously, I would put Troy as the front runner for this because I would want him as a LB over the other 2, but I sure hope that the voters look at it objectively.

They are very different players in very different schemes. O’Connell blitzes a ton. Troy hardly blitzes at all and plays a lot of coverage.Catgrad16 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 5:09 pmIt'll be interesting to see how this plays out and how the voters decide to look at the stats. I’d imagine every coach in the big sky would say that troy is the better player.
That said, Daley and Schreibeis won the buck, I think they won based on their sacks/TFl’s.

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
How can Land have a 25.5 TFLs and only 43 total tackles? Is that a typo?

Re: Troy Freaking Andersen!
Not a typo.. my guess is he blitzes every play and has picked the right hole 25.5 of those times!

Isiah Land has a impressive resume, 18 sacks(unreal), and 43 tackels. O'Connel is a stud, definitely impressed by his year, plus he has another year to put up huge #'s. Trying to be unbiased, but Troy has an edge.iaafan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:09 pmThat’s probably what will happen. Troy has probably got the best name recognition.
