Let’s get weird?
Sac St Qb just tried to throw the ball across the line on a scramble into the end zone for a TD. Weber knocks off EWU. If NAU can pull off the upset, Cats will be alone as the only unbeaten in the BSC. LETS GO JACKS!

Sac is up 23-0 before halftime. Doesn't look like it's gonna happen. We really needed the griz to beat them...

Re: Let’s get weird?
Since we're already going to make the playoffs does it really matter whether we win the conference or not? It wouldn't be surprising for us to be seeded/ranked higher than Sac in the playoff field and we'll almost definitely play further into the bracket then them.

Yes it matters. When you win the conference, you get to hang a banner, and add a year to the big sign, for 2021 Big Sky Conference Champs.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:32 pmSince we're already going to make the playoffs does it really matter whether we win the conference or not? Re: Let’s get weird?
Sure but I’m a selfish a**hole. I hate the whole shared conference championship. I want that SOB all to myself and by myself I mean the Cats. I really have nothing to do with winning it.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:32 pmSince we're already going to make the playoffs does it really matter whether we win the conference or not? Yes. It turns out NAU is bad at the footballs.

Re: Let’s get weird?
Lol well for playoff seeding you are right, it doesn't matter much. But the first team goal is to win the Big Sky Conference, and be conference champs.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:45 pmOoh, a banner! We haven't won the conference since 2012.
1. Be a winning team
2. Win the Big Sky Conference (hang a banner)
3. Beat the griz
4. Make the playoffs
5. Win playoff games
6. Win a Natty
If you don’t have winning a conference title in your goals for the season the others won’t matter a lick. Winning the conference makes the other goals realistic.

Re: Let’s get weird?
Might be nitpicking, but a winning record isn't so much a "goal" as it is a baseline expectation. As in, "Any MSU coach & his entire staff that has a losing record should expect to be fired prior to the first playoff game".Prodigal Cat wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:54 pmSeriously? And I think that #2 should be "Beat the Griz" and "Win the Conference" is more like #5, because the Cats can have a pretty disappointing season (like 2014 & 2018) and still make the playoffs...and given the FCS playoff expansion, beating a 6-5 team like Incarnate Word (2018) is a low bar for even a mediocre team like 2018.
This season, the Cats could finish 9-2 (7-1 in conference) and not even share in the conference championship...even though in that scenario the Cats would probably be a Top 5 team, and the team that went undefeated in conference play (Sac St in this case) was ranked roughly #10.
So "hanging a banner" is more like #5 IMO.

Both teams are declared conference champs if we are tied with Sac State at the end of the season. It really doesn’t matter if Sac loses.91catAlum wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:36 pmYes it matters. You act like winning a Big Sky Championship is no big deal. How about asking some players who have won one? I’m sure they will disagree.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:45 pmOoh, a banner! You really think that winning a Big Sky Championship means nothing to the players? You just devalued the accomplishments of some great Bobcat teams. Not sure how you got that out of what I said. Winning a conference championship is a big deal & reall tough to do. Getting to the playoffs & winning a game is pretty perfunctory for MSU.PapaG wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 3:11 amYou really think that winning a Big Sky Championship means nothing to the players? Sac has a much easier schedule remaining. The Cats have 2 very tough road games remaining. Most likely we will drop one of those 2 games. So Yes, it does matter if Sac loses.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sun Oct 24, 2021 12:39 amBoth teams are declared conference champs if we are tied with Sac State at the end of the season. IMO, conference championships have become very devalued ever since the Big Sky expanded to the extent that not every team plays the same conference schedule. Make it to the playoffs and the real best team in the conference will be revealed there.

Re: Let’s get weird?
Add to that the fact that a minimum of 3 teams from the conference make the playoffs every year. A conference banner is a good goal for the team but as fans I think we'd rather have a seed and a team built for December football.
