As for what "championships" don't count, it appears the task is left to me.

Somewhere around 50 years ago, you won your first supposed "national championship", which was actually some obscure bowl, with an even more obscure tie-breaker point system. The game ended in a 0:0 tie!

A few years later, you won a NAIA title.

Finally, about 20 years ago, you won a legitimate I-AA title... well done. That's... ONE!
ya, but the griz are gay so your championships dont count.

WTF? I guess that would be "cute" if it wasn't such a twist from the tone of the previous posts, and way too far from any connection with reality to constitute humor.

We have another "know-it-all" who, in fact, knows nothing. NAIA awarded us the championship in the 50's (I can provide a link if your dumbass doesn't get it), our second was Division II, and the third was Division I-AA.

You guys are unbelievable.

I stand corrected. Point was, and is, that apples-to-apples, you have ONE NC.

Maybe you guys get lost in your own frustration, so let's try some perspective. As I mentioned to Toddler, imagine the Griz going to I-A and claiming two NC's. Can you just hear the laughter? If so, you're beginning to understand why we laugh when you hold up "THREE NC's!!" to our two I-AA's.

Not to mention that you tout your one I-AA NC which was over 20 years ago, but find no problem ignoring Griz/Cat prior to 2001.

my only further comment on this is that winning a title in 1984 doesn't seem to count "cause it was so long ago" to most griz. what is up with that? do NC's expire after some time?

this is progress. i think we have reached agreement on ONE issue here. what is important to recognize is that we agree that football was played beyond 20 years ago. i think that may factor into some of this discussion...but, i'm probably wrong.

continue the battle....

Not that I don't love slamming the Cats as much as any other good Griz fan, but I think you also have to keep in mind that I-AA didn't even exist until 1978, and in 1976 (when the Cats won their D-II title), many of the current I-AA teams were in Div. II. So I would say that comparing their 1976 title to a I-AA title is an apples-to-apples comparison.

The 1956 title I'm not as sure about. The bottom line is, they won a title at the level at which they were playing at the time, and they deserve credit for that. However, I would say that winning a I-AA title is more of an achievement than the Cats' 1956 title was.

I guess what I'm saying, in a roundabout way, is that in my mind, the score in the national titles race is 2-2, with the Cats having a third title that's worth something, but not quite equivalent to a third I-AA title. So the Cats are winning the race, for now -- if the Griz were to win a third I-AA title, then we would be winning the race, IMO.

All of this is my opinion, of course, and I don't really expect anyone on either side of this debate to agree with me 100%. :)
